It's wrong to call it their best album because it's different from their other work? That makes no sense.
Most everything I say is semi-correct, I can't help it if you're a closed-minded wannabe hippie. How's that wrong? That's like saying neither Sgt Pepper, The Beatles, nor Abbey Road can't be their best because they are all unlike anything else The Beatles made..... I like your logic.
obscured by clouds is a very underrated album. not their best by any means, but should be a hell of a lot higher than what critics list it. I would say animals is my favourite followed by piper and dark side of the moon. wish you were here is 4th...... well, lets just rank all of the albums shall we??? animals piper at the gates of dawn dark side of the moon wish you were here obscured by clouds meddle the wall the final cut atom heart mother a saucerful of secrets more ummagumma (studio side only) the division bell a momentary lapse of reason *note: ummagumma ranks that low because the studio side is mostly pure crap, albiet dave gilmour's three songs are pretty good, especially the narrow way pt 3. ummagumma's gem is the live side, but it shouldnt be counted in with the regular studio albums.
anyways, obscured by clouds is a jewel in itself. sounds nothing like the rest of the floyd albums, except for maybe half of meddle..... its very laid back and mellow..... nick mason also lists this one as his favourite..... I do believe that storm thorgerson listed this one as well.
1. Wish You Were Here 2. The Wall 3. Piper at the Gates of Dawn 4. Dark Side of the Moon 5. The Division Bell 6. The Final Cut 7. Animals 8. Obscured by Clouds 9. Meddle 10. A Saucerful of Secrets 12. More 12. A Momentary Lapse of Reason 13. Atom Heart Mother 14. Ummagumma As for live albums 1. Live at Pompeii(if you can get a CD version of it) 2. Pulse 3. Is There Anybody Out There? The Wall live 4. Ummagumma(live 1/2 of it) 5. Delicate Sound of Thunder 6-110. The god only knows how many bootlegs out there
actually I like the Is there Anybody Out There? live version of the wall more than the studio album itself. what shall we do now appears on there.... plus, dave gilmour's solos kick ass on the live version. anyways, as far as live albums go: live in pompeii (I do have a cd version of it) ummagumma is there anybody out there? pulse delicate sounds of thunder and I have countless bootlegs...... some of the best ones are from the in the flesh tour '77 and some stuff from '69, '70..... like their man and the journey sets..... and this live gig from fillmore west...
Well songs like Arnold Layne and stuff i dont really like. Is there earlier stuff alot like that? IVe been listein to some of Meddle and i like it. Ill probly get piper at the gates of dawn though.
If you get the chance, also get Saucerful of Secrets. It's VERY different than anything else they've done...
what about the album roger waters recorded but never released that he made at age 14 called beyond the chicken of choken. man that was trippy
Pink Floyd were a completely different band then. It doesnt seem right to compare the piper at the gates of dawn to any of their other albums. But i guess it doesnt make sense, im just retarded
it's out of DSotM, Wish You Were Here and The Wall on the basis that every song on the album is fantastic i count piper at the gates of dawn as something totally different
