I have a friend that is coming over in a few months. She doesn't want to take anything over from the states, but is wondering if she stops over in Amsterdam first and trains around, what are the checks on the train if any?

Help from anyone with reliable experience. Esp. going from NL to Germany?

i've taken trains around the netherlands without any checkpoint.......not an expert on trains leaving the country though. couldn't she rent a car and drive to germany? i've seen many germans in a-dam who say its a short drive.

just a thought (probably a problematic one LOL)

    good luck

She could although she wants the hands-free, no getting lost ;), no having to deal with parking/garages, etc., experience of riding the trains around. Plus with gas prices in Europe (they are almost double what they are in the states), it is a bit more expensive than the rail.

Any others? Are there dogs, checks, on trains coming from Amsterdam? Should she simply ride to Rotterdam, or somewhere else and then transfer?

well inside the country they only check on your ticket, friends of me never had a problem with taking grass in the train. i don't know if they check it when you're leaving the netherlands. i'll ask a friend if you want?

    Hey Consolidated
As you have done this, are there no customs to walk through
and/or passport control at these European train stations?
To be honest I've never actually crossed the border yet from
the Netherlands by train and curious myself.

A friend and I trained from Amsterdam to Hamburg about a month ago. We had a pack of shrooms and a beautiful chunk of hash to get us through the few days we were going to be in Hamburg and we had absolutely no problems.

Tickets were checked after each stop but we never had a passport check and the only dog we saw belonged to another passenger. We actually ended up wishing we had brought some of the weed that we left in A'Dam for fear of getting caught.

    Hope that helps

That helps alot. Thanks cyberbro! Thank you everyone else for your tips/stories. I wouldn't normally be so paranoid, but Germany is very different toward cannabis than NL. People here seem so uptight about it. I was born and raised in California, did the whole grateful dead, phish, etc., reggae/jam festival scene and what a shocker to come out here. The Germans are soooo afraid of getting caught and branded as a "dealer". It is very hidden, even at the few reggae and other music shows that I have seen since being here. I have even spoken with certain people who you know smoke, but once you bring up the subject, they back away, become distant, and pretend like they don't know what you are talking about. arghhhhhhh. Anyway, I am glad A'dam is relatively close. I hope to check out some other great dutch cities too.

    Hey Cats,

Anybody know what the check points at the European Airports? Specifically flying from Amsterdam to Italy. I remember before the EU the fuzz used to sniff my bags pretty good when they knew I was coming from Amsterdam.

There was an earlier thread about the airport question. I would think that airport security would be more tight, but who knows after Madrid.

No country fuck about at airports anymore since 9/11, i dont think its quite as hardcore as in the US but if you've come from the dam they'll be onto you quick as a flash, and i certainly wouldnt want to fuck with the italian police!! Italy could end up being your last stop, and all the benefits of italy (women, football and pizza) wont be getting served up where they put you!!

I just got back from europe, and we took a train from Amsterdam to Paris and took a plane from Paris to Barcelona, Barcelona to Rome, then Rome to Brussles. We didn't take anything with us, but we should of. There was no checks anywhere, no dogs, we could of just had a bag in our pocket the whole trip. We flew out of smaller airports though. Schiphol airport is alot larger but didn't see any dogs or anything.

i once got a train from brussels to rotterdam and you dont notice the border or stop or get checked until you realise the colour of the railway station signs are different.
Having said that dope is available in most towns in NL but be warned if you get caught with gear in belguim they are strict.Very aggressive policeing on tube tickets so drugs are absolute no no.

I know they check cars randomly. Especially if you look like you might smoke dope , they check you at the boarder. It happened to a cousin of mine. And he had some with him.

I wonder what the penalty or fine is for getting caught with
a few grams or is it a case of confiscation and a warning.
I heard a rumour that your passport gets stamped if caught
commuting drugs and then you really are screwed every
    time you want to travel.
It all seems luck of the draw to me.?
