hello! i wanted to know directors and films from all over europe...not any fancy productions but ,you know, good, thinking, underground european cinema. . well i admire : Fellini,Pazolini,Godar,Bonuel,Tislofsky,Trier,Kostouritsa,Almodobar but they are known.. I d like to find out more! any good suggestion from spain?and oter countries generally . . thanx (sorry for the spelling ) <Fuck Hollywood>...
Well, there is lots of good Danish film out there, not just by von Trier. Examples of other directors are Thomas Vinterberg, Soren Kragh Jacobsen, Nicolas Winding Refn and Susanne Bier. Among Swedish directors I'd like to recommend Lukas Moodyson and Roy Andersson. Austrian: Michael Haneke. Macedonian: Milcho Manchevski. Those are all I can think of at the moment. I assume you're already familiar with Polanski, Forman and the likes. There are some good Russian filmmakers out there, but I don't remember their names right now. I can get back to on that if you want. Hope this helps. -Pat
thANX shadowplay you ve been very helpful! i know Hanake he s nice! yeah Polanski is one of my favorites... i didnt know much of Sweedish or Danish directors but now i ll search for those names you gave me i hope you re right. thanx again <you re the first person respondin to my first thread here, i ll always remember u!>
Well, what's the point of a forum if nobody answers? To be more specific about the Swedish ones, I mainly recommend the film Tillsammans (English title: Together) by Lukas Moodyson. Another one by him is Fucking Åmål (Eng title: Show Me Love - odd translation I know). From Roy Andersson I recommend Sånger från andra våningen (Songs from the Second Floor). A good film from last year is Fyra nyanser av brunt (Four Shades of Brown) by Tomas Alfredsson. It won a lot of awards at the Swedish "Oscars" this year. You can find more info on all of these (and the ones mentioned in the first post) on the Internet Movie Database, which is thankfully not only for Hollywood productions. Polanski is one of my favs too by the way. As well as Kusturica. -Pat
Well, I would like to see "Tilsammans", if it's different to the stereotypes the two danish films about kollektiver in the 70's, "fede tider" and the other movie, which title I don't remember right at the moment, describes. noose.
Yes, now I remember: the title of the other film is: "Det store flip". In both films hippies are stereotypically described like adults behaving like small children.
i think you should see a norwegian film called "Hawai, Oslo"...I loved it, it's a little cute film about totally, normal(?) people...not sure who the director is but i think he's called Erik Poppe...
I liked the way they were portrayed in Tillsammans. You have all sorts of people in there, though all of them representing a certain stereotype I suppose. In any case it's a heartwarming film that, whenever I see it, restores a bit of hope for mankind in me. As they say, "hellre äta gröt tillsammans än oxfilé ensam". -Pat
