I don't really have much sympathy with the religious dictatorship under the Dalai Lama. Although not very known, horrible things happened under that regime, but at the same time, I won't support today's regime in China (although I would if China would have stayed on the marxist/leninist/maoist path). In my personal opinion, it is hypocritical that the Americans talk and hold demonstratoins regarding "freeing people from occupation and war", when, in fact, the US is perhaps the most violent nation on earth. The Chinese liberation actually led to many great things, and it wasn't like they were invading Nepal like the Americans did against Iraq in 2003. The whole thing was much more complicated than that. For the first time in history, the tibetan people were freed from religious oppression under the religious regime, and all people would have the right to free education and healthcare. Before the Chinese helped the Tibetan, there was no such thing as "currency", in Tibet. The Tibetan people received salary working for projects for the tibetian people, such as building new roads and schools. There was practically no such thing as infrastructure before the revolution occured in Tibet. For the first time, people could listen to the radio, and do things the religious regime denied the Tibetan people to do. Radios, and similar things, were for the upper-class only. Common people were de-facto slaves for the upper class. People suffered, even when the religious regime was gone, yes. The means of production were not very advanced, and Tibet was (and still is) very backward. I'm sure people in Tibet face great economic problem there now, as well as before, but not to the extent as before the revolution. Anyways, what's the big deal? The Dalai Lama is doing commercials for Coca Cola, and worked for the CIA in a failed attempt to defeat the Chinese. He talks about "peace and justice", but support war in several cases. A man of contradictions, lol. I might be "biased", but I do think that there are other things humanity need to focus on, such as Africa (especially Sudan, Ethiopia, and Congo, but also the other nations on the continent). It's a shame that people in the West die because obesity, while people in Africa and Asia and Latin America die because of hunger, lack of nutrition and medicine, especially considering the fat bastards in the West are in many cases, directly responsible for the world hunger. My two cents.
You claim that there's never been a "real" communist country, then you acknowledge that China basically followed the principles of Marxism at one time? Furthermore, how can anyone with a conscience possibly defend Mao Zedong? He's one of the worst mass murderers in the history of civilization and kept his people impoverished for decades.
Its an international protest not a US led protest -- occuring on over forty nations -- and I, yes am an American and happend to have personal friends from Tibet who were tortured by the Chinese government for simply acknowledging that they worship the Dali Lhama--- and I do not know were you have recieved your facts about the Dali Lhama being a dictator but that is one of the most ridiculous claims that I have ever heard-- get your facts strait before --- And I have no problem with communism -- what I do have a problem with is the way the Chinese people are treating the Tibeatan people this day and age
Further more -- just because a nation does not have currency, or Coca Cola does not mean they are a backwards nation that is the way they chose to live -- the Chinese are the ones with the religeous dicatorship over the Tibetan people and there have been upwards to a million people placed in concentration style Gulag camps within China from Tibet-- and yes I support other world causes I am currentelly helping with a Nepalise friend of mine to raise money for 200 sponserned individuals that are being fed and clothed in that country and I have also helped with books for Africa programs --Myself as a person can only do so much and I strive everyday to make the world a better place and for someone to just sit there behing their computer and bitch about someone else helping a group of people is more backward then the Tibetan society that you are denouncing --
