Mixed signals?

Right, okay.. so I feel daft for posting this but I'm quite confused.
There's this guy at my college that I kinda like, but I get kinda mixed signals from him. He'll be kinda mean to me, and then when I shrug it off and walk away he'll come over and be all nice.. to make up for it maybe. I dunno, it's weird. Anyone have a clue why he could be acting like this? My best friend thinks that he likes me, but I'm really not sure. =|
