Started a Watercolor painting of my daughter tonight. I so suck at painting but i'm trying. So its watercolor, some acrylic, and pen. I'm hoping to have it done by next week she turns 6 its one of the things i want to give her for her birthday. (i know the eyes are already a bit off )
beautiful.....i've never done a watercolor..i can't wait until the spring semester. i'm taking painting for the first time
your getting some really good tonel quality in your painting, don't give up your not doing badly... but i would recon just leave the felt tip aside.. the heavy lines are taking away from the quality in your drawing/painting... painting is a totally different scope to pen or pencil.. you've got a good eye for tone.. so just trust the paint, your paint brush and your eye to work together and leave that felt tip in the draw!!!!! you'll do fine! actually are you working from your imagination or from a photo.. as if your working from a photo when your working into the colours on the page take the colour you see and use a bit more than you think.. say is a slightly pinky white... put a little more pink than you think you should and you'll be suprised at the outcome... sounds mad, but trust me it works! also.. big tip - don't use black paint... mix colours to make dark colours close to black but not black.. trust me...!!
i know i'm wishing i hadn't used the pen but we learn as we go i guess next time its a no no! Anyways worked on it a bit more this morning now just got background wings and butterflies and birds and ladybugs to add!
its all part of the leanring process.. but your doooing really welll so you've no need to worry one bit.. looking forward to the final result.. - you never know the felt tip might be a stroke of genious in the end product.. sometimes thats the way it is!
I was going to say that the shirt needed more value, but I see that you have added some; looks great. You have a very good grasp of contrast, shadows, value, light placement, highlights, and reflected light. For someone who isn't very good at painting, you sure do paint pretty well. Keep it up; it will look beautiful, just trust in your abilities.
I thought the black pen, watercolor, and arcylic were an awesome combination. Surely something I would never mess with, all of those at once. Who fucking cares what people say, you took some weird things and put them together, I think you are a visionary! Namaste Francine
wish i had gotten more done but i've been slightly distracted but i'll work on it more this eving at least start the background..
I was going to say, dont stop using the felt tip on this image, if you use it lightly throught out the piece it will make the pen on her look a lot more in place.
thanks i'm just going with it, experimenting, pen and watercolor are not my tool of trade so its all new to me but i need to explore other things..
Try using the pen as a water colour on another piece of paper, some random ens look really good when you swipe them with water
I love the wings! They are beautiful. I also like the way that you are shading; her hair looks so good! Oh, and I LOVE the eyes!!
its beautiful, and remember that no matter what you did she is going to love it completely! you are her mum and this is a true gift from the heart. the fact that it looks brilliant too, is just a bonus! good for you girl! N x
