ok, I've taught myself the basics now, and so far I've made 2 dish clothes......the edging didn't work right, but blah.
Anyway, the project that I'm doing now is a coaster, and there's a part of the instructions I've been stuck on for about 3 days now ( ) and I really really REALLY need some help!
This is out of a beginners book and it's the 3rd project, so I feel like a major idiot, but I'm soooo confused!
Ok It tells me to start out chaining 2, and then doing 6 sc in the 2nd chain from the needle until there's 6 sc and then to join the first and the last stitch with a slip stitch....this part I get just fine.
THEN, it tells me to chain one and then sc in the same stitch ........this is where I get stuck.
At first I thought that it meant to sc in the chain that I just made....but then it doesn't look right when I get further along. I don't know if it's that, or the slip stitch or the first sc that I made in the last round.
    I'll type out the instructions...maybe that'll help

OK, it says that I'm supposed to work in rounds without turning first

RND 1: (right side) Ch 2, 6 sc in second ch from hook (and it also tells me to NOT do that through the backridge, but through the center of the chain); join with slip st to first sc

RND 2: ch 1, sc in same st, (ch 5, sc in next sc) around, ch 2, dc in first sc made on rnd to form last ch-5 so: 6 ch-5 sps.

RND 3: Ch 3 (counts as first dc, now and throughout), 2 dc in last sp made on Rnd 2, 5 dc in next ch-5 sp and in each ch-5 space around, 2 dc in same sp as first dc; join with slip st to first dc: 30 dc.

RND 4: Ch 1, sc in same st, ch 3, skip next 2 dc, sc in sp before next dc, ch 3, *sc in center dc of next 5-dc group, ch 3, skip next 2 dc, sc in sp before next dc, ch 3; repeat from * around; join with slip st to first sc: 12 ch-3 sps.

RND 5: Slip st in first ch-3 sp, ch 1, 3 sc in same sp, 7 dc in next ch-3 sp, (3 sc in next ch-3 sp, 7 dc in next ch-3 sp) around; join wiht slip st to first sc: 60 sts.

RND 6: Ch 3, 2 dc in next sc, dc in next sc, sc in next 7 dc, * dc in next sc, 2 dc in next sc, sc in next 7 dc; repeat from * around; join wiht slip st to first dc, finish off.

    weave in yarn ends.

I get the rest of it ok, it's when it's telling me to do the same stitch thing that I get stuck.
I actually found another set of instructions for a different coaster, and it said the same kinda thing at first----"sc in same stitch as JOINING"-----i don't know if I did that one right or not either, but I did it in the first sc that I did on the LAST round when I joined it to the last sc that I did. I didn't know if it meant that, or if I should sc in the slip stitch.

I don't know if that made any sence at all, but that's basically my question. Do I sc in the chain, the slip stitch, or the first sc that I did in the last round? What does it all mean!!!
I'm ready to cry!!!!!!!!:( I would just move on to another project, but I keep seeing this!!!!!!!!!!! I have no idea what it means! Someone HAS to help me!!!
