They shouldn't be building ANYTHING on that ground is the way I personally feel. So many lives were lost there, such a horrific tragedy took place on that spot and it's disturbing to think of anything being built there on a place harboring such bad energy. It should remain as a memorial, nothing more.
If you'd visited the site, you'd see they are not going to be in the actual original footprint, which will be a memorial.. The new towers will be something like 300 feet behind them.
They should build a Mosque on the roof of the Southeast tower, and maybe a ridiculously excessive array of anti-aircraft cannons on the other.
I certainly have a personal interest in the matter considering I lost my college roomate in the tragedy - after a brief viewing, I do actually prefer the Don's vision over the previously approved 'freedom' tower.
Paying respect varies person to person in how they do so. Building new towers or leaving the space empty are the only options; the interpretation for respect is wide open. Perhaps a few soup kitchens would be the better appropriation for the funds.
Some people probably find it disrespectful not to build them. Im pretty sure they have noticed that it is still a big hole in the ground 3.5 years later. Is that respectfull?
How would waiting to build them be disprespectful? You dont just hurry and build giant towers again after something like that. Its not like anyones offended that theyre not building.
I find it pretty hilarious when one person trys to speak for everybody. There have been many discussions and articles with people who lost loved ones there, and are very upset with what is going on (or not going on, and should be). ------------>>> http://www.blogsforbush.com/mt/archives/004491.html
I just got back from New York yesterday and there will not be a reincarnation of the twin towers of the WTC. Instead they are building a single tower that will be taller with a pinnacle reaching up. The pinnacle is meant to mimic the upraised arm of the Statue of Liberty. The foundation area of the original towers will be left in tact and a memorial to those who died there will be built.
