Hey guys, gals and probably both...which would be gays.....or something like that i unno, i'm outta my head at the moment (weeeee....magick flying athames!!).

Anyway, i was just genealy thinking about something as you usealy do.....wouldn't you all agree that Wicca is becoming a commiceral religion, i mean take a look in your local bookshop/new age store and anything that is "mystical" will most likely be Wiccan/Wicca related, not that i mind or anything* its just that yea it might be old -cough1947cough- but like... why should you have to pay money for a book which is:-
    A. over priced
    and B. pretty much useless

or another example, all these " Learn how to become a Wiccan in a 5 day course at home" ads, please excuse the language but BULLSHITE!!, I don't care what religion you belong to, but no one can become a full "faithed" follower in just a short time......unless your one of those Techno-Pagans....hehe those guys rule....hehehe...shrooms..

So in conclusion, Wicca, Becoming a Commiceral Target?
    Post your views.....all criticism welcome ^^;;

*although i have my own reasons for "distaseting" Wicca -coughgeraldgardenercough-

Wicca a commercial religion? Isn't that what it always was? :p

At my local bookshops for the most part Wicca/pagan is not in the Religion section but in the middle of new age and vampires, which I think really blows. I find myself looking in the gardening , health care, or folklore and african sections. alot of the time.
Sorry I just woke up, I'm not making much sense, I'll get back to ya!

It's a new* interest and has plenty of scope for book publishing. So of course money grabbing b-ds that publishers and book sellers are they will flog whatever satisfies the appeties of the public.
Wicca is by no means the only victim, same is true of Eastern religions. (I know the Dali Lama is old and dedicated but he can't honestly have come up with that much material)

Consider that the target audience are teenage girls (and it shows). So obviously it will end up lame and fluffy in places. This is a fleeting intrest being cashed in on. So let them have some fluffy fun (how much harm can it be)

For everyone else, the sincere and dedicated; accept that, unlike other religions, wicca doesn't have a nifty universal all in one holy book.
For every tome of fluffy bunny love spells there is a wonderful valuable book waiting for you.
It will take some seaching but they are around. Might even want to ask for guidance from you diety/ies of choice.

Totally agree about those adds :)
*Definition is debatable, by new I mean a previously untapped source of publishing potential.

aren't all religions commercialized by now? If not, then Christmas would still be celebrated as the birth of Christ instead of a shopping mall blitz. Bibles wouldn't be sold, but rather given. Kabbalah wouldn't be trendied, it'd be worshiped. People wouldn't become Buddhist because Richard Gere practices it.

    Hahahaha, good point Zoomie.

Look, it's not the books I have a problem with, it's the "teen witch kits" and other prepackaged spell kits. They're absolute crap and not what wicca or witchcraft are supposed to be about at all. I also hate it when you read a book and they have huge lists of things you "need" to buy to practice the craft. Gah!

    Oh God yeah, totally agree.

    LOL aww poor Zoomie :)
Well there are a few pagan sabbat ecards, but I've never seen any paper ones. Okay I am serious considering that as a business venture, pagan greetings cards, what'd you think?

Thanks. Our Clan isn't celebrating until tomorrow. Potluck at 6, Maypole at 7, fire jump at midnight (if we're still conscious :p ).

Celtgrrl (my betrothed) informs me that there are Pagan greeting cards, she saw them at Borders in Rockville years ago. But the Bushies have probably outlawed them by now...
