What is it? I've always been under the impression that these followers of Jesus dropped all the dogma, started afresh, maybe with an understanding of Kaballah.
Hippies, who meditate on Jesus, love God's creations, chase butterflies, etc... And get drunk on the Holy Spirit! My friend once met a christian hippie...
check out the Jesus in the Bible and you will find the greatest hippy who ever lived. He had no place to call his home, he wandered from place to place teaching about love.
ummm, i dont think Jesus as a hippie, He may have been passive, kind, compassionate, God...but no hippie the lifestyle you describe seahorse, is a vagabond, that teaches love
no, i just think hippies are stupid...[sorry, i mean most hippies are supid] Jesus was above all of that...He was sent by God Hippies choose to not fight cause they think fighting is wrong, Jesus didnt fight because it was right to do so... you may not get what i mean, but thats ok, most people dont PS-i dont claim to be a hippie, nor do i desire to be one
a hippie christian is a free thinking christian. nothing to do with the kaballah. nothing to do with organized religions. its a hippie who believes that our king will come and lead us the right way, and do away with babylon and its confusing ways. being a hippie has nothing to do with drugs, or paganism, or hinduism, or christianity. nothing to do with tiedyes, patchies, dreadlocks, barefeet. all of those are just preferences and does not make one a hippie. they also do not make one not a hippie.
Jesus was the biggest hippy of them all - going around telling everyone to love everyone else. . . can a man get any more hippy than that? By the way, I am agnostic, not christian, and I do not consider myself a hippy. Jesus was a good guy nonetheless.
Hippy and Christian are two ambiguoius terms. To even talk about it you'd have to establish a definition for each. For instance: Hippy: One who is "Hip" Hip: to be aware, in the know, ie hip to what's going on. If you apply that def. it has nothing to do with dress or lifestyle (except in the sense that someone who's truly aware of and in touch with reality would be prone to conduct themselves in a certain way). Of course to some people "Hippy" just designates somebody who dresses a certain way same as "Christian" designates anybody who goes to church.
It just occurred to me: Wouldn't rastafarianism be considered a hippie version of Christianity? They do believe in Christ and see Haile Sellassie as another prophet sent by God.
I've never read too far into Rastafarianism. That word just always makes me think of Bob Marley... But I've always been curious what it was all about. Maybe you could elaborate some more Hikaru? Jesus was such a flower child. And he gave his life for our sins so that we could have eternal life! You can't get any more 'peace and loveish' than that! That's what the hippies are all about: peace, love, & compassion. Jesus had all of these traits--to the maximum that they could ever be expressed. He never lacked any of these things! I don't think Jesus would agree with the whole free love thing, though.
LOL no me neither...free love can bring so many diseases! And even if you use protection all the time, free love will desensitize you and disable you to commit to one person for life which is the most rewarding, loving human relationship GOd intended for us!
I know little more than you, but I'll try. It's my understanding that Rastafarianisms believe in the Bible and believe in Jesus as the saviour, but at the same time, they also believe that Jesus was already reincarnated, as Haile Sellassie, and that he will come a third time to judge. It's not the same as Christianity (hence a different name), but it's kind of like another branch of the same religion, much like Catholicism might be considered a different worship of Christianity.
christian hippies are the one that irritate me...that and the LOVE the EARTH ones who are so obbessed with it that they preach it to everyone around them. no offense to anyone, just been waiting to get that out.
