a 5 year old bottle of breastmilk, when we defrosted our freezer. I am heartbroken. Don't know why I saved it, I told Bear he could have used it for DNA mapping, if I ever disappeared, but it was also for sentimental reasons. His reason for dumping it, "I didn't think it was still good." :$ WAH!
From babycenter.com You can store milk in a freezer for various lengths of time depending on the kind of freezer you have. Always keep the milk in the back of the freezer away from the door, because items stored in the door or up front are more exposed to changing temperatures every time you open the freezer. • You can store milk in an older model single-door refrigerator with freezer inside for two weeks • You can store milk in a double-door refrigerator with freezer on top or bottom for three months • You can store milk in a freezer that holds a temperature of -4 degrees F (-20 degrees C) that is rarely opened and does not have a defrost cycle for up to six months • You can store milk in a stand-alone chest or upright freezer that holds a temperature of -4 degrees F (-20 degrees C) that is rarely opened and does not have an automatic defrost cycle for six to 12 months You are of course correct that it could be used for DNA mapping but all they have to do is find a hairbrush or an envelope or something else you licked. It is great in pancake batter even if it wasn't up to feeding someone who relies only on it seems to me a much better thnng than tossing it out.
I know sweetie, (thank you, though) I'm a Lactation Consultant, you can also keep in in the fridge (fresh pumped) for up to eight days. I wasn't going to feed it to anyone. (Five years is a long time....and it was transitional milk, part colostrum.) It was my last baby, and my last bottle of milk. It was a connection to something I will never have again. The same week I also lost my entire Word Files, all my written work. *sigh* It was a rough week. Thank you for caring. Hugs, Maggie
The thought of 5-year-old milk...let alone breast milk...makes me cringe...lol... Btw, what does dh stand for? I've seen people use it, and I feel dumb for not understanding what it means...
It's hard to let go of those intimate little things, but I think you will have to look to a lock of hair or a lost tooth...something less perishable.Sorry for your loss, there will be more.
Thank you, Keepin on. There will most likely be no more milk from me. dh means "dear husband" or "damn husband" depending on the situation. LOL. dd is "dear daughter" ds is "dear son" dw is "dear wife" or "damn wife" again, depending on the situation. MIL is Mother in Law FIL is father in Law BIL brother in law SIL sister in law ect. You aren't dumb for not knowing, all you had to do was ask. See?
Thanks for that wonderful picture you made in my mind of your husband going downstairs and sampling your breast milk. (Teasing) I know my ma still has her baby shoes and I kept my card that my late Great Uncle gave me when I was 4. I know it hurts but at least you have the results of your midnight feedings.
Thank you all. You are right, Bell, I have the results. Four reallly cool kids, who are as healthy and as smart as nature intended them to be.
