wish i had some advice or good tips on where to go and what to see.....but i don't.

BUT i DO have some advice for the trip there.....

take the long route and then stop for a couple days in columbus, ohio, and you'll enjoy a nice visit free of charge as far as a place to stay and food to eat is concerned :D (<--thats supposed to be a very winning smile!)

ah, it was worth a try! :p

anyway, like i said, i've never been....but i'd want to check out the big buddha at koh samui, some beaches, there are national parks and temples and all sorts of places....i can't imagine you'll have much trouble finding things you want to see or do.

have fun! i'd like to know how it goes

hey there rainbow dew. since your in the country i was born in and share the same hair as i....... i gotta say i haven't been on this site in a couple years, used to alot, anyway i felt compelled to hook ya up with a couple good spots over in thailand ...i went 2 years ago and am goin back in feb. .. a small town ccalled pai in northern thailand...take a bus to chaing mai...then another to pai...a small hip town , peaceful, lots of musicians and easy goin folk (i hope it hasn't changed) i could live there for awhile...another is ko chang, a place called the treehouse..it used to be on lonely beach but moved to the other side of the island...the people that run it are so kind and the food and atmosphere is great..one more would be ko pan yang..a crazy full moon party happens there on hat rin (a beach) i tend to stick to the chilled side of the island where debachuary is less, too much booze and hard drugs for me...any don't get caught with anything, bad news, they'll have road checks on the night of the party , just get it at the beach from a local..if thats your thing..anyway, didn't mean to be so long..have a safe trip and don't forget to save 500 baht to leave the country!no shit

    peace and love
    pig

shit ....i guess i should have read the date on that one!
hope you Had a good time

Sure-hit the beachs-both sides, but dont forget the north-head up to Chiang Mai for a couple days then take local transportation and do a tour in the hills(hilltribe villages) near Chiang Rai.then up to the Burma border at Mai Sai,to the makong at Sam Liem where the burma/Loa/Thai borders meet, then thru Chiang Saen to Chiang Kong-from there take a boat down the makong to Luang Probang in Lao(you can get a Lao visa in C Kong)From there you can either go south thru Vientien and back to thailand or north into China-endless options.I live in north thailand so if you have any questions just PM me

dont bother with thailand and just concentrate on Lao and Cambodia! ;) Lao is the best out of 3 i've been too...
Luang Prabang is beautiful; Go and talk to the novice monks there and teach them some english! They are all very friendly. I love the market too though you have to haggle really hard to get a decent price.
Muang Sing is worth going to for a small trek. They have a couple of decent treks both have permission from the hill tribes villagers whch is really nice. They also have an eco-trek. You get to stay with the families. Don't expect anything like Nepal and the Annapurna treks but for the cultural experience it's definitely worth the mission up there.
Vang Vieng is horribly touristed and in this case it shows! Friends episodes on repeat endlessly 24 hours a day blarring out of the tvs in bars, other bars blast out the music from about 3pm - 5am every single day. The whole tranquil atmosphere it had has been totally and utterly ruined...That said though, if you can bear all that and don't mind not sleeping for a couple of days it's more than worth a visit because of the surrounding area which is surrounded by some very impressive limestone caves, small villages and a beautiful landscape which begs you to hire a moto for a couple of days.
Vientiane is the most chilled out capital ever and right next to the mekong...Nice for a few days, good food and a really nice wat where you can get a steam bath and massage near a woodland area.
^^Thats just north Lao unfortantely i didnt spend much time in teh south but from what I saw it looked equally as wonderful...The thing I love most about Lao is totally chilled out slow pace of life, and I know this is often stated far too much but the people are actually really wonderful.

i couldnt agree with the posters more. i just got back from thailand. my plan was to stay in chiang mai for only 3-4 days...but i ended up loving it, and staying there about 2 weeks. from there a rented a motor-bike and just cruised around alot. doi suteph is nice, and it has an amazing view of the city. also theres a large route you can travel around chiand mai...it takes you towards mae rim, and samoeng, and back.

as far as the going to pai thing goes.....do not miss it if you are in the north. i absolutley fell in love with that place. the music scene is great, and the people are very accomidating.

ive only been back from my trip (paris-thailand-cambodia, and back) and i just dont know how long im going to be able to handle it here in the states. i may have to head back sooner then later.

good luck on your trip. i know you will have the time of your life.

    This is mostly for guys...

Those Thai "girls" that seem extremely interested in you are prostitutes... and possibly post-op transsexuals. If you want to pick up in Thailand, stick with backpackers, don't go with locals.

I am a new member to this forum, and very interested in Thailand, it's true culture,it's geography and peoples and mostly, the non tourist travel I am soon to embark upon.
But first..tell me?, who is in the picture on your avatar?....it looks like maybe from the desert bike race scene in Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas?
Wild - ish guess but if you've seen the movie then you'll recall the "Husqvarnas" bit in the sand storm.
Anyhow,if you are a serious Thai enthusiast and love & respect the country, perhaps we can exchange some chat? I have met and befriended many Thai people while in Australia, and I am particularly drawn to Nong Khai and the Mekong as well as going over The Friendship Bridge and on into Laos.

    Peace ! Thanks, Andrew.

I found the Thai culture to be overly obsessed with sex.
Nothing wrong with a sex obsession, but after some time it gets really old.

To sample the Thai's "sex obsession" visit the suburb of Pat Pong (I think that's the spelling) in Bangkok.

When I visited our took-took driver wanted to come out with us, he nearly creamed his pants when we said Pat Pong. He was very disappointed when he found out we were only going to the night markets and not the sex shows.

I have actually visited Pat Pong and some sex shows. Funny stuff if you like girls who shoot pingpong balls out of their vaginas, blowing up balloons with it and taking razors out of there.
Not so funny if you think girls are more than just an object.
