so, rob and i went rummage sale'ing today and the first house we hit was this kind hippie sister in her amazing garden. i bought some 'love in a puff' seeds from her. the seeds remind me of black eye peas but the white spot is literaly a heart. they grow these great green balloon seed pods. anyone have experience with em?? i hear in some states they're considered a weed.

hmm i dont know really.. i noticed today something similar to what your describing, seeds growing in a pod in what would probably be considered a weed, and it looked like the more mature pods were beginning turning black. dont know what it was though, a premature seed tasted just like a raw pea probably would though.

Love in a puff (Cardiospermum halicacabum L)

This plant has been placed on the USDA website as an invasive weed in the following states: Alabama, Arkansas, South Carolina, and Texas.

In the composite picture below: top left are the seeds, right side is the plant, bottom left is just something I thought was pretty, to fill in the space.

    Peace,

ps: probably the best source of plant info is at http://plants.usda.gov/
