It is not hard but I would take a class. There is just so much to know I think it would be hard to learn from a book. What you need is diamond cutter, breakers, smaller breakers (I don't know their tech. name ;) ). You also need the glass and a diamond tip grinder. I like this website for supplies:

    http://www.glasscrafters.com/

It takes patience and the supplies are not cheap. Once you get the supplies glass, solder, foil, and the other odds and ends stuff is not so costly.

I have been doing glass work for a couple of years now and I really like it. It is addictive so watch out :) Once I started stained glass that led me to get into lampworking and slumping glass.

Let me know if you have any other questions I would be more than happy to answer.

Stained glass is a wonderful hobby. Taking a class is a good social outlet and helps you learn the basics. You also can usually buy the necessary tools at a discount when you take a class. I did this for a number of years. The only problems I see are that there is a limit to the number of pieces you can have in your home or give as gifts. If you're going to do this, make sure you have an outlet for the surplus. The other problem is lead poisening. I stopped doing glass because of that. Also always wear shoes. I can't tell you how many pieces of glass I've had to dig our of my feet.

~*stained glass is a super groovy hobby ~ but it is reasonably expensive to get yourself started! i've been working with glass in my sculptue for about five years now and am completely in love with it ~ i agree with the other lovely ladies posts to take an introductory class to get a feeling and just take it from there! best of luck and dreams!*~

I am also interested in this. Do they sell stained glass kits at hobby lobby or any other craft store?
