I had the weirdest thing happen to me today at work... Some old lady came up to me and asked me a question and she kept clearing her throat and coughing (she obviously had a cold). Normal enough but as soon as she came up to me I felt a burning sensation in my own throat... almost like I had a sore throat or something but I know I didn't. As soon as the lady left it went away. It was so weird and so strong. Can that be empathy?

I've heard of empathy dealing with emotions and have felt others emotions before (least I think so anyway) but never anything physical like that. Can you feel physical ailments with empathy as well?

Just curious. Thanks for the help in advance.

i think that's totally possible.. the human body is capable of so much. the whole "contagious yawn" thing, etc. i remember reading a psych article on mimicry and it touched on topics like these. according to the study, people who were more susceptible to "infection" were also a lot more likely to consider another person's point of view during conversation and tried to understand life from the other's shoes.
there's all kinds of info on it out there, anyhow, try: http://www.lib.latrobe.edu.au/AHR/archive/Issue-December-2001/gibbs.html

don't think i'd call is "psychic", though.

    & welcome to the forums!

    peace, :)

Raven, that is known as clairsentience, clear-sensing and it is very much psychic. You felt her pain in your throat chakra, when this happens you should probably do a self clensing so that the energy does not linger. It is very much a psychic ability and sense. I wont drag on too much about it in this thread, but if you'd like more information on how to expand and develop your psychic abilities and learn to trust your senses, feel free to PM me.

PS: We all have this ability, you are just beginning to take notice of yours, that's great. I suggest you also begin balancing/opening your chakras and maintaining peace/positivity in your life.

Love & Peace Be With You ^_^

Being an Empath, I will tell you it gets crazy sometimes.
It get so strong sometimes I have to shut myself up and not be in contact with others.
It's like having long long cat wiskers, when someone brushes up against these wiskers it sends signals to my brain. I can feel what they are feeling, thinking and wanting.
I also 'see' pictures running through my mind when I talk to people. Picture of their lives and their intentions. When 'seeing' and feeling these things in others, I try to sta on the outside looking in. To be drawn in could be dangerous and one could get lost finding ones self.
I was afraid of these feeling and pictures I got from other peoples minds, I did not understand why I was to see and feel them. I didn't like a lot of what I saw/felt n others, sometimes.
I could see and feel their intent and some intentions were not pretty, then again some were delightful.
As time went on I was able to gain some control over these sights and feelings. I learned to close my subconscious mind down a bit and look beyond the emotion.
I don't always pick up the emote now, but there are times when it's overwhelming.
