Its easy to go barefoot in Seattle. The streets are generally clean and the folks don't usually mind. As far as how much of the year you can go barefoot, it depends how your feet react to cold. I'd say 9-10 months. Late November - January get pretty cold at times (though not so much this year). Our temperature rarely drops below 15 degrees in the winter, but usually hovers at about 45-60. It's really a great place to barefoot.

Yeah it really depends on your tolerance for cold weather, period, not just how much cold your feet feel. With the lack of sun, the wet weather and the wind, it can feel a lot colder than the number on the temperature gauge. I have a lot of family and friends that live in warmer climates, and wehn they visit they are always wearing jackets or sweaters and long pants, even though it might be 50 degrees. At those temps, I've broken out the shorts already.

I wear my flip flops year round. I think that the only time I really notice is if there's snow on the ground, and only then because the front of flip flops tend to act like a shovel for snow, piling it up on your toes. Luckily snow is pretty rare in Seattle..maybe a handful of days out of the year.

It IS a good city for barefooting, I suppose. People here can be pretty mellow. They give "the look" but the number of comments you get is actually pretty low. And the few times that it's been commented on it's always been in a very polite and respectful manner.

I agree with that, I didn't think about how the temperature might be different here from other climates, mostly because I'm used to it. Basically when it gets too cold to walk on the ground, I still just wear flip flops... even in the snow, but doesn't everyone?

One unique thing about Seattle is that people are breaking out tshirts, shorts and sandals when it's still technically winter and no more than 55 degrees. You have to savor those warm days you know....

well, I just moved to Seattle and as a barefooter, I have to say that I am pleased with this city. I've been all over, in lots of shops, without shoes, and no one said a thing to me. The streets are clean and the people don't say much, well actually, nothing....I think barefooting is definitely something that you can enjoy without hesitation. Congrats on the move! Hope to see you around!
