So, any handy hints and tips that you can share from experience? I'll start off. Some people think that rolling up a sleeping bag nice, neat and tight to get it to slot into its covering is the mark of a pro. Actually, this stretches the lining and flattens the filler material - whatever it may be. The fibres are compressed in a lateral and repeated fashion so that no air can be trapped in them in future. This means the efficiency for keeping heat in is reduced. Remedy? Just shove that sleeping bag in any old random way with no regard for neatness. That's the mark of a pro! ~ p.s. disclaimer - we all know the mark of a pro really: No shoes, a bag of fruit and nut and just an old blanket! ~
Yes.. do the same for a tent.. folding will wear it out faster.. just stuff it in that bag. - Never pack a tent when it's wet, if avoidable. Mildew will result.. always try and dry it out in the sun for a few minutes, then move to the warm shade - If wood is too wet to make a fire, and you have a saw or good knife.. you can usually get dry wood by cutting big sticks and logs.. the middle is usually dry - always bring nylon rope, and duct tape. Wrap duct tape around a pencil to save space. all I can think of offhand.. there's tons of tips. I'd need something more specific
yes! Rope is good! It's as essential as a towel to a galactic hitch-hiker. ~ This is probably obvious but I'll put it up anyway: When you're going to be cooking for yourself out there make sure you take some bread. A good chunk of bread to mop the food out of pots and pans fills you up and sort of cleans them. They can last longer before you have to treck to a river and freeze your hands off when cleaning them properly. ~
