i didn't know which foru to put this, so i thought politics would be the right one. i've decided to convert to anarchism and pacificism. i wouldn't say extreme pacificism. i'm gonna ignore people when they're sayin words to me in society, although some words can be pretty offensive and hurt ure heart sometimes. i only will use violence unless i can't get out of a fight or someone attacks me. would anyone say that goes against pacificism?
I dunno, but I've heard that an eye for an eye makes the world blind. . . I suppose if you really "can't get out of a fight" then you have no choice, but if somebody attacks you, you can turn and run in most cases. Or, if you're like me and have lived with a violent older brother for years, you know how to take blows without feeling pain or incurring injury.
Yes, but then again, pacifism goes against common sense. I like this philosophy: "Value all life, especially your own."
It may go against pacifism...but,I personally wouldn't agree with not defending yourself. That choice is yours though.
well would think i'd be a dumbass to just let someone beat me up. not tryin to dis u wondergirl. just speakin my mind, so please don't take any offense.
why wouldnt you defend yourself? try to run youll probably get it worse if you dont get away. i went to karate for like 6 years, i can defend myself.
Buy some pepper-spray, it's five dollars at wallgreens. Remeber what teddy roosevelt said "speak softly and carry a big stick". That means that you should never intentionally start a fight, or even start one with someone who wants to, but if the shit hits the fan than you just whip out your big stick and beat some ass. I used to be a pacifist, it don't work, especially in middle-school.
No,I don't think you would be a dumbass in any situation. We just all have our own ideas and opinions. We don't all feel the same about things. Just for me personally...I am a nice person,I don't want to hurt anyone...but I will fight back if someone starts it. That's just how I am though. It doesn't mean that it's right or wrong...that's just how it is. If you feel differently, than that's okay too....and no,I don't take any offense. We're all just human
this is exactly why i started practicing Aikido. It is the answer to the "non-violence = weakness" conflict. please see link in my signature...
I support the theory that you should never INITIATE violence, but when your life is in danger, you have an obligation to yourself to protect that right. Otherwise, your philosophy is suicidal and not worth living. Is it better to live in fear and slavery? Or fight for your freedom?
If it's kill or be killed, then yeah, kill im, but just because somebody picks a fight with you doesn't mean you have to kick his ass. It is possible to DEFEND yourself without returning blows. It is pretty hard for somebody to hit you when you're concentrating on evading him, and I imagine most people will give up after spending much time trying to hurt you and failing. And besides, even if you win the fight, nine times out of ten the bastard will try it again later, likely with some friends to help him, or when you're off guard.
To paraphrase a quote of the founder of Aikido: "To attack a Master Aikidoka is like attacking the wind. Eventually the aggressor will tire and give up." Libertine, if your comments were directed at me i'd have to agree with geo_tehad_returns in saying that self defense does not have to be violent. And peacefulness is in no way fear and/or slavery. Peace is not powerless either. Not in my world.
Oh, I agree. However, neither would I sacrifice my life and my right to it to the whim of someone else. If I can escape without violence, I would. If not, I will defend myself and feel no remorse in doing so.
