I'm lookin to get a new amp. And latley have been playin gritty blues stuff, but I really cant get the right sound. Any suggstions on a good "gritty" sounding amp? If anyone understands what I'm talking about, I'd appreciate it.

The sound you want is not just in the amp! It's in the guitar you play, the pedals you use, and the fingers you've got!

I've got a 70's Ampeg VT-22. It's got 2 12 inch speakers and is rated at 100+ watts. There's several sensitivity switches on it and makes for a great way to find a lot of sounds. Maybe something to look into.

Hmm... well, it depends. I've blown Hot Rod Devilles. I prefer the Twin series... I've been mostly using a Cyber-Twin as it's really versatile, 130 watts with a tube preamp, and I can play with it.

How much you looking at spending?

Fender is a good place to start for blues, and its also versatile enough to sound great for other styles too. I have used a Fender Princeton for years, and love it. Small enough to play alone, loud enough to use in reheasal, and easy to line out or mic live.

I have also heard mixed reviews of the DeVille, and it may vary from amp to amp.
Twins are great, but almost more than I wanna heft from gig to gig very often.

i had an ampeg 2/12 tube amp that kicked ass on chicago style electric blues. An original crate w/ overdrive or tube screamer does it too. right now i'm using a fender princeton. don't use much disrortion, like alkaline said its also in the musician and in your hands. it's an old saying but a true saying, you gotta be able to 'feel' what your playing. half step notes played in the correct spot can really make your solo work. I guess you have to listen to alot of blues players also and hear what they are doing. and i mean the old school musicians like buddy guy, albert king. johnny winter, etc.
    keep playin'...you'll get there.

Gibson Lab series... solid state. Jesus Christ, I saw BB King tonight and I've never heard anything like it... The Fenders have too much.... signature sound. I really need a nice jazzbox or semi-hollowbody.

dedhead95: I see that you have a white stripes picture in your sig. Jack White uses some old res-o-glass airline guitar, an electro-harmonix big muff dist. pedal among others and fender super twin amps. (This is all as far as I knew,a while ago)

I have an Big Muff pedal and that is pretty much what defines his sound if that is something you are interested in. I can cover his songs and you'd think you were listening to the cd with my vt-22 and shitty ass Aria Pro II that I keep around for standard tunings.

My Uncle Tinsley is one of the greatest Bluesmen alive.... he's played with everyone from B.B., to Stevie, and Skynyrd too... He uses an old Marshall set from way back in the day... they should have his equip set on www.tinsleyellis.com.... check it out man, and listen to the old stuff... his voice is breakin' down over the years, but he still rocks the axe like a looney lumberjack... I'd say listen to alligator records... and use what they say is best... Personally... I'm gonna be a real blues man and build my own amp if I can.... be poor... then your blues will be true... and nothin' McNothin' beats bottom dollar blues... you'll get your goods all in sweet time... have faith....in something....whatever that is.... that's your decision bro... not our's....
