i have a pair of sleeping bags, that aren't more than a few years old, and i'm having some serious zipper problems. these 2 sleeping bags zip together, and it looks like somehow the zipper pull thingy from one ended up on the second bag, so one bag has no zipper and the other has 2. how do i fix it??? i can't afford to have it professionally repaired, nor can i afford new bags.

I'd try to use one of the zipper pulls to zip the two bags together again, then as you unzip it, carefully ensure that the pull goes over toward the correct bag. However, from what little i know of zippers, this usually occurs when one or more of the zipper "teeth" are sheared, and the only long-term solution is to get it replaced. I noticed you're in Rochester ... if all else fails, i know there's a little italian tailor near the 12 corners in brighton who has repaired zippers for me before very reasonably. (<$10 but much smaller than a sleeping bag) i'd be happy to send you the info if you find you need it.

You could try prying open the zipper with some pliars until it's open enough to pull off of the zipper, and then clamp it back onto it's original zipper.

If you need better instructions, let me know. I've done this before for some pants that the zipper-pull came off of.

If it's just the sliders that are broken, and not the zipper teeth themselves.. you can get a zipper repair kit at REI. I had a broken tent zipper that I couldn't fix, and a broken sleeping bag zipper, and it fixed them both. Comes with instructions and whatnot.

aquamarine starlight - could you PM me about that tailor? it's the slider that's off. i can sew a zipper in blindfolded if it's just come unsewn, but i'm not much good fixing the metal parts. i really don't want to spend the dough on new bags if it can be avoided, because i'll need it once i'm out of here.

HHB - what the FUCK is your issue with me, man? i haven't done or said anything to you, please leave me the hell alone.

Hmmm.. yes, that little unsolicited personality assessment was brought to you by "The Old Asshole" whilst standing upon his soapbox, throwing stones from his little glass house! Kitty i'll grab the # of that tailor and PM you tomorrow.

Ah but she did ask did she not?

An once again what i said has nothing to do with judging her or a so called "personality assessment" or anything else,, i just said that for a lil hippy type chick who longs to live in the woods her lil thingy that says "busty tavern wench" makes her look like a bar room slut ...

And totally contradicts the person that she wants others to see,,..

As for my "the old asshole"
Dont ask me,, skip put it there the last time the forums crashed.. ;)

the sooner you can get that number to me the better. i only have a week and a half left.

oh, and btw, whoever suggested it, i daren't use the pliers to open the slider & slip it over the teeth, because i tried that before with a different zipper & nearly ruined the thing. that's how i know i'm not good at fixing the metal bits. now that i think of it, i just might have a zipper repair kit in my sewing supplies somewhere, if i can just remember if/where i packed it, or if it went out with the goodwill donations...

Hillbilly-it seems that your panties are in a wad over nothing again. It's just a zipper. If she can sew well, all she needs to do is buy the new zipper and install it. Duh. Well, a good sewing machine would help. Maybe a friend has one she could use. Why pay someone else to do the work?
