Hello Alan,
I'm in Pomona, CA. It's about 30 miles east of Los Angeles. You caught my attention with having cats. I myself have three indoor cats- ages 2 1/2, 6, and 12 1/2. I, too, am looking for a communal place. With the community I live in, and how my friends are- it's like an unofficial commune. I have two daughters, who love the idea we are less than an hour from the beach and desert, and about fifteen minutes to the hiking trails in the mountains. We moved here last April from Lexington, Kentucky. It sounds like Lexington and Detroit are similiar in the lack of public transportation, and that you have to drive everywhere! Where we are now, I can walk to practically anywhere- or take a bus easily!
I agree with many of your views and ideas! I hope to hear more from you.
