ssia......I get almost everything I use at thrift stores. You can get lots of different colors for not much money...especially on .99 day! For 10 bucks I can get 10 different colors...and that's enough to make several packs and hats. I just found a 3yard + chunk of new fab (at the thrift store!) ...an great natural Rayon/Linen blend that will make awesome hat linings...enough for at least a dozen hats...got it for 1.29! I'm stoked! I love finding deals like that!
i just bought a shitload or bright fabric for $1 a yard at wal mart HAHAHA but normally I go to joannes and dig thru the sale stuff and i buy old curtains and sheets at thrift shops too
back home, I usually get my fabric from my grandmother's linen closet. As long as I replace what I take with one of the same thing, she never cares. lol. In fact, she is usually happy to get rid of her "ugly old curtains" or "tacky sheets".
When I buy- I buy exclusively from thrift stores. When I run low on material I ask at freecycle.org. I get material for christmas from my mom, bf's mom, and grandparents. I wish our thrift stores would have .99 days. You're so lucky.
I get a warm and fuzzy feeling inside a Beverly's craft store... They have the most unique fabrics..i love em! they can be pricey tho so i treat it like i am buying gold...
A lot of the material I use comes from old shirts I used to wear but got stained or something. I just cut around the stain, and have a perfectly good piece of material. I also use some of my mom's leftovers, which I believe came from Joanne Fabrics or some similar craft store.
Almost all of my fabric has been given to me. My Great Aunt sends me boxes and bags full of fabric once every few months...she's a part of a sewing club or something. It's like Christmas looking through the stash she sends The stuff I buy myself comes from Joann's,ebay occassionally,or other online stores(for cord mostly). Oh and almost forgot, thrift stores and yard sales.
ebay, thrift shops and...nazimart i live in no mans land with no fabric store nearby. I'd have to drive at least 3 hours to get to my nearest Joannes. That is not an idea I entertain with the wee ones in tow..they are just no fun to fabric shop with! lol
A local thrift store sells clothes for .50 everyday, so I always get all of the cords they have. also hit goodwill on mondays. They have a "buy ten items for $5.00" on one color every monday. The only thing I hate about using cords is cutting them up. I use hand pinking shears, and it is SOOOO slow.
Len's Mill Store (oh god I love that place for evvvverything.. :&) and thrift stores.. Sometimes I just tear old clothes apart for material..ahhaha
