They were better than the Beatles... not only were they atleast 10 years ahead of their time, but Morrison/Cale/Reed were far far better writers than Lennon/McCartney. They're easily one of the greatest bands of all-time.
thats taking it a bit too far. they are a good band, dont get me wrong..... but I think the worshipping is a bit over the top. they are getting to be about as bad as the doors, as far as overworshipping is concerned. as far as influential bands goes, I would have to say the beatles have influenced more artists and bands than the velvet underground has... probably due to the fact that they were always more accessible, sure...... still, how many different genres were influenced by the beatles?? everything from heavy metal to country, and in between.
lol, what a call. I don't think the Backstreet Boys could even leave a bruise on the Beatles ass as for velvet underground - yeah they are awesome (i am listening to 'who loves the sun' at the moment) i wouldn't go so far as to say that they are better than the beatles, but meh. they both are just fantastic.
well the thing about the beatles is some off their stuff= pure shit but some of their things had some kick ass lyrics, they just couldn't do the music part for shit
Not 10 years, I'd say 20 And another thing. To everyone, dont judge the velvets by their album Loaded!
ok, compareing VU and the beatles is sorta like compareing the Yess and King Crimson...both were prog rock,...but King Crimson had a much darker, heavier sound then Yess
personally, i think that comparing the beatles and the velvet underground is like comparing apples and oranges. the velvet underground is said to have spawned early punk rock, while the beatles were the ultimate in pop-rock. both were very talented, but their niches were completely different. needless to say, lou reed was THE MAN. my mom had me listening to lou reed at a very young age, i grew up with that man's voice, and i have mad respect for him.
i love vu, but i can't get into reeds arty noise stuff.... i learnes how to be a good addict listening to the velvets though.... i dunno if thats really a good thing..
