i especially ask this question to those religions with one main god, do you believe there is an opposite to your one 'good' god? one main evil presence...the devil or satan or whatever you want to call it.

No, I think there is 'good' and 'evil' in all of us and everything. So there is no sense in a specific embodiment of evil (or indeed good).

(inverted commas because that's all subjective.)

Yup. The devils is the beast that is not, yet is. A ficticious character created by God for our enjoyment- the same way you defeat ficticious characters in video games, you can defeat the devil in life by acknowledging an essential truth: that God created the devil (fiction and drama) for our enjoyment.

Personally I don't believe in the concepts of "good" or "evil". That's just too medieval and has religious connotations to it.I just subscribe to a theory that ideas or actions are beneficial or harmful.

I think the devil is a Christian concept to create a balence between good and evil, which is kind of a beautiful concept. But I don't believe in him myself.

Every person on the planet has evil in them. We've all got a dark side wether we admit it or not, just some show it more often than others. Thats the real devil, the beast that lives inside the human soul. The Devil (Satan or whatever else you wanna call him) is just a scapegoat created by those that refuse to acknowledge that humanity is capible of of darker acts all by itself without any outside influences

please do your religious homework...the first faith with a type of good and evil entities is the [dying] Zoroastrianism faith...a well noted Zoroastrian is Freddie Mercury...It is a monotheistic religion based on the struggle between good and evil... http://www.religioustolerance.org/zoroastr.htm

and onto the question--i think the devil exists as an entity, but not so much as a boogyman, its a little strange and hard for me to explain...but yeah

Fine then, Christianity is not the first faith that believe in the devil. My point still remains.

OK, one more time for those of you who missed it: There is no God and there is no "devil". There is only the mythology of the weak-minded and the evil that humans choose to do or not do of their own free will.

Learn it, know it, live it.

I do not believe in the god or the devil either, but I am interested in what others believe and why, I don't think its fair to call people who believe in them 'weak-minded', if people want to believe they can. The only problem i have is when religious (or non religious for that matter) people try to inflict or force their views upon others.

Zoomie, stop being so arrogant. Your opinions are no better than anyone else's, so stop pretending they are superior. You're just as bad as the Christians who try to force their opinions on other people- arrogant, hypocritical, and genuinely annoying.

Initial coercion in any form is wrong. However, organized religion has retarded the progress of humankind more than any other institution besides Statism.

I think what Zoomie means is that too many people rely on netherworld goblins and gremlins (i.e. gods, angels, etc..) to "guide" them or "keep" them secure, when they should just shed the medieval superstitions and believe in the great human will. The only gods I believe in are the ones I see everyday....you guys....other people.

No. I'm Pagan, and we have a God and Goddess, who have both good and evil inside them. The devil is a purely Christian thing.

No I don't believe in any superior being, especially the devil. I think that satan and hell were invented as a scare tactic to force people into believing in christ/christianity.
