...all the music from the late 60's and 70's? are these bands selling out for finacial reasons? just saw a commercial a while back with the song 'Melissa' (Allman Bros.) playing in the background. Don't even remember what the commercial was advertising?
Its all about copyright, public domian, and ownership of songs. It depends on the song, some is a money thing, some is that conglomo corporate bastages now own the record industry, and some of it was recorded by musicians who didnt have ownership to begin with!
Sure it may be bad to sell a song like that, but it can bring a new awarness to a song, like I was watching this concert last night (Festival Express) and The Band was playing a song and my little sister knew the song from the comercial. Also although its bad for music, its good adversting, using a song makes a company seem warm and knowledgeable. But does Aerosmith, Led Zep, need to sell cars, and Allman's don't need to sell a cellphone.
Wow, I never knew that if you attempted to make money, you're less of musician. MOney makes the world go 'round. Deal with it.
If you are going to evaluate the music such as you are doing now, you're evaluation shouldn't factor in what led the artist to compose whatever he composed. Evluate the music itself.
I couldnt respect a musician who plays only for the money thats contradictory for most musicians anyway, since they hardly make anything
I couldn't respect a man of ignorance, who judges people and actions by other actions that have no relevance to the action or person being judged.
the way i see it, it doesnt really matter... im still gonna listen to somebody even if they were in an ad... like mickey hart was in an ebay add... but i still like the dead
it took me awhile to make sense of this poorly worded babble, but here's what I managed to interpret out of it: you have very low self-esteem? if what you were trying to say is that it wrong for me to dislike someone because they are a greedy soulless fuck who lives for the pursuit of such trivialities as money and popularity, then the chances of you being something like a racist conservative or worse are greatly augmented if youre wondering how that has anything to do with the fact that you are supporting trash "musicians" such as the backstreet boys or britney spears, its because you share the exact same attitude as an oppressive capitalist: money and power over honesty and integrity and quite often this attitude goes hand in hand with racism and conservatism
What I'm trying to say is that you judge musicians not by their music but by their motives in which drive them to create music. I didn't know that the Beetles were trash because they had a contract that made them money. I mean even the Grateful Dead put forth out cd's. Are they trash too?
I never said anything about the quality of the music having any connection with the musician's motives what I said is that I could not respect a person who harbors that kind of attitude, and not that it would cause their music to be of low quality the examples I used of the music of the backstreet boys and britney spears being poor in quality may in this case be exclusive to my own opinion (though arguably most people share the same viewpoint on the subject of the aforementioned "artists") but I never stated that their motivation to make money had any negative effect on their music I believe that it does in this particular case, but I never stated that it applied to all music that was inspired by this motivation nor did I state any opposition to the act of making money, yet for some reason you superimposed this on me what I stated opposition towards was simply the motivation to make music for money, not to making money, and not to any music besides the backstreet boys and britney spears which in my opinion are considered trash
Michael owns a vault of Beatles music, I'm sure he really doesn't give a damn other than making money for himself. He sold Nike 'Revolution. I was wondering if ABB owned the rights to Melissa. I recall reading about a ton of black artist from the early years of rock-n-roll/ motown days who got swindled out of their music by greedy labels and managers, etc. I suppose ABB can do whatever they want with their songs, however if ABB does own the rights to Melissa, what were they thinking?
