Hi there! I don't label myself as a "hippie", as the word "hippie" seems to have as many definitions as there are people who use it.

I'm mostly looking for signs of intelligent life on this planet. And those who aren't fully aware of the depths of their own ignorance, aren't all that intelligent in my book. A sort of Robert Anton Wilson version of the famous Acid Test, if you will. I also enjoy creative, off-the-wall types, not the sort of negative ignoramuses who are bored with their own lives, but rather those who truly enjoy being themselves, or who are at least evolving in that direction. And aren't we all supposed to be evolving anyway? If you're not evolving, you're already dead.

Peace and Love, everybody!!! And if you don't like it, tough, get used to it!

PS Check out posting #9 below, by yours truly :H

hey shevek, i've been thinking of ways to give you a sign to say; hey, here's some intelligence. but how can you say that about yourself? it's not possible.
so i'm just gonna stick with a;'hi, how are you? welcome!' for now.
i'll see you around, you seem like an interesting guy.

Hey Lovelightlisa! You've got an excellent point. Being intelligent, like being enlightened, loving, etc. is never really a claim that anyone can make about themselves. Rather, when others say you are intelligent etc., then you are. Not that I like labels very much anyway, but I felt that my original post was intended to draw people who like to think for themselves, yet not be jerks about it. Truth is ultimately self-contradicting anyway, so everyone has to work it out for themselves.

As for the name "shevek", see if you can find a copy of "The Dispossessed" by Ursula K. LeGuin. An excellent novel, usually classified as sci-fi, but really the story of someone who experiences some really radical things, and who grows into a more complete human being in the process, in spite of having to fight TWO systems to find out who he really is. :)

Anyway, if I don't get my mind blown at least once a day, then I figure I'm slacking too much. Thanks for today's mind-blowing! Love the Grateful Dead pic -- keep on evolving!

I appreciate the notes of support from all of you, especially from Lovelightlisa. :) However, I realize that I've only shown one very limited side of myself so far, and you may not be aware that I have some definite feelings as well. For that reason, I cut and pasted a posting that I put up in response to someone who wanted to commit suicide.

For all of my hoary years (51), I'm in many ways a person who's constantly being reborn anew. For that reason, I usually seem to get along better with most younger types than with those my own age, most who seem to "know it all" and are very smug about it. But of course, I can deal with ANY evolved, or even honest, soul, no matter what their personality or situation.

    ===================================

I do agree with those of you who say that you can't know what it's like to be depressed until you've actually been there. I know what serious depression and suicidal thoughts are like; the BS that you get heaped on you by a lot of ignorant types that otherwise mean well, can actually make things worse.

What has helped the most, is honest sympathy and support, usually from someone else who's been there. It really can get lonely when you're all by yourself, and sad to say, the world really doesn't give a shit most of the time. What really bugs me the most, is all the "don't worry, be happy" types who drive me crazy with their plastic happiness.

In the end, you have to find your own solutions in life, and I don't knock anyone who chooses suicide. But then, perhaps all the pain in my life, both internal and external, has forced me to seek my own answers rather than adopt the ideas of others wholesale, and to learn real compassion rather than trying to sweep everything under the rug and pretend it's OK.

And to all the people who say that it's selfish to commit suicide, I have to ask: where were you when that someone needed a little bit of GENUINE kindness? I've actually diverted several other people from suicide, and not by preaching, but by just allowing myself to share in their pain until they can find the strength in themselves to go on.

So who's selfish anyway? You don't like being reminded of your own mis-placed emotional attachments, or your fear of death -- something that will happen to all of us, one way or another??? I stayed with my Father until he passed on due to Parkinson's. While I certainly miss him, I never felt any great sorrow, but rather gratitude that he didn't have to suffer anymore. I am also thankful for the chance to get to know him a little bit better; the last time that I got to talk with him was only a few hours before his death.

Sorry for the diatribe, but I just had to get this off my chest. Maybe if people could get out of their own heads and really give a rat's ass about supporting others for who they really are as people, most of the suicide problem (and a lot of others, like addictions, power trips, bigotries, etc.) would go away. Think about it -- it just might be possible!

Peace and love, everyone. And if you don't like it, tough, get used to it!

PS to (xxx): I know it's tough as hell, but I believe that just about every advanced soul has to experience something like this in at least one incarnation. And I do have the sense that you are much more advanced as a soul than even you know just yet, so hang in there if you can.
