If i looked back on TV 20-30-40 years ago sure there is many questionable comments that were allowed to be broadcast like 'paki' on Only fools and horses and i think i few other choice words. 'mind your language' 'alf garnet' (but thats a bit diffrent i suppose that shows up racism for what it is) a lot of programmes are carefuly being airbrushed out as we speak never to be seen again (thankfuly). It was just another era imho .. thats the normal folk who run the BBC reflecting what was going on in the 'real world' .. Of course it is unsuitable now and completly offensive but a whole diffrent mentality is within the BBC (and in the 'real world') and all TV stations now. Individual prejudices are about but clearly who ever would be perpetuating a racist agenda would be out of a job before you could say 'dick head'.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/info/licencefee/ maybe you would like to check out why the BBC is not making programmes for you bloody americans they are making programes for us because we pay them with a 'tax'... having been a member of this forum for a while http://www.bbcamerica.com/ you might want to get that added to your cable package.

NO the Eastenders is a British soap opera i never like any regardless of country. the rest is good . They used too have Benny Hill ...in the early 1970s they show Monty Python . they have not shown monty in 25 years. they also shown DR Who. another british favor was the 60s tv spy = The Prisoner. i was a bit young too figure out all the plots . 1969 was the last time . in 1998 a cable channel ran a 24 hour of the Prisoner i could not stay that long. Red Dwarf was runing 1999 thru 2003 1/2.

If your into more contemporary british shows like wire in the blood or spooks then you will like BBC america (even though it is BBC it actualy shows other uk networks programmes because other channels are more populist so make shows that are more for the wider audience).

If your hoping to catch 'classic' british progames you might be a bit dissapointed a lot of the time.. realy i would check out the forum and you will get a feel of the issues a lot better than i can explain... It was a good forum a while ago, not been on it for a while. Nazi refrences, revolutions and such might not go down well though. Not that it is 'dull' or anything.

    hi there

    very interesting read here

im affraid there is no real change within the media for freedom of speech
or thought......as written in one reply..{ i believe in freedom ,but not the sort with the carrot that is forced in front of any work force ie bbc workers...
who perpetuate the ideas of our capitalists system of class divide,
on tv...ie all we see is a idea taken from the reality within the imperialistic
history of divide up to today....all movements of mind levels have to fight
against media that allows working class struggles to continue with the
negative reported press release.....until a new drama is written to disclose some truths about such events such as the miners strike.
what next the poll tax march for justice... mm i wonder.......

the socialist party had 15 to 30 seconds
of time {even though they were standing
in more areas than respect...}to speak about
their ideas and beliefs for our election..
a clear example of keeping out spoken ideas
down......or least at bay because people
may listen and open their minds to other
ways of living and their own low living standards
compared to the top few .....

this is not freedom of speech ,this is
a small reflection of what they would like
the people to see and hear.

and as for giving socialism a bad name
no,im being truthful within my beliefs
you have to change all... to change the
way the people are living world wide
and to stand stronge is to speak out
    for change.............
    thank you lovenpeace from saff

one day it will change. for all...

I do believe the media report on events matter of factly and from a biased point of view sometimes.. Well not that but they use the 'fullness of time' and 'perspective' to look back and say 'this is how it was' . Ultimatly a bit bloody late in the day. Thereby leaving people like saffron very pissed off i imagine .

What personal connection have you with the miners strike saffron ?.

    not just the miners strike
{even though i saw village after village in the north...
suffer from the bad press . and my grandfathers
    generation worked damn hard for the country....}
teachers strike hit my mothers work place
badly and bass press also ,for many families... poor times....
    all movements against the government
get bad press...this is fact. not words of
    sudden questioning you offer...
all strikes ... that working class
    people have to go through
to be noticed by the world.......
and no ,tv does not reflect
real working class life in any aspect
it touches upon certain aspects to
    convince people, times have changed
no they have not, not really
we are still oppressed in many areas
just look outside ,class divide education divide
health divide dentist divide..upper class middle class lower
    class below poverty line class.
second class on trains.first class on trains....
    ask teachers learning support workers
factory workers ,etc.all on low pay
    yet the compaines managers etc
    live very well..

    so all must strike together
    walk out ......
    thank you for asking

Good lord:rolleyes: The eurovision song contest as a bastion of right wing ideologues... "save all your kisses for me", "ooh ahh just a little bit", yes, that makes perfect sense! Wogan is actually quite a clever understated ironist. I'm not sure what his politics are, and don't particularly care since what he does has no relation to the political sphere whatsoever. To use these examples as evidence of racism and right-wing ideological bias is particularly humourless, blinkered and inaccurate.

    Was this a joke?

    hi there

i wonder if you will be writing such things
    in ten years..
when you have seen more than the injustices you have faced so far...
as a woman and a mother...

    no joke

this is just one of the programmes
that has political reasons for being 2nd world war....

after the war they decided we should
all sing to see who wins...in europe....

if we cast aside what its all about
then people like yourself see no harm..
    they become blind to
the reality of racism within everything
our world is one for profit
    this includes the government
    and the tv..

    fact...

    lovenpeace from saff
    ps dont asume tv
is going to tell you the reality
its there to entertain the bored
    mind...........
