not a comune, not a cult, not really a co-op. not a working farm . . . at least not yet. something happened to me yesterday and the Stranger is inspired. Once again I am ready, ive always been willing, and i am mostly able, to captain the ship. I am looking for a few first mates. We will be walking the fine line between the ideal situation, and the practicle hurdles. I am not looking for handouts or slaves, although those are always welcome. Of course the ultimate goal is an eco-village. The attainable goal Ive set is a working farm, where we can live in harmony, while accepting eachothers imperfections. What I need is a small handful of people to comit 20hrs a week, 9 months a year, to work on the goals and projects, to generate the loot for a down payment on the farm. We will share the same space, and have to learn how to accept eachothers imperfections, while striving to lessen the impact of our own imperfections on eachother. we will all have part time babylonian jobs, so that our personal needs do not drain the resources and progress we make twords raising the money for the down payment. I am in no way interested in taking your money! the money you make is yours. If you happen to get a full time job then that is great! your minimum hour requirement will be lessened, as i dont want to burn you out, but the pay check donation will become mandatory.(not the whole thing silly!) We will develope a democratic system, with rotating appointments, to deal with all aspects of what we do, but i reserve the right to veto and override this process(quite often) as the captain of the ship, until i find someone more suitable for that position. Once you have fulfilled the 20hr a week, 9 month a year requirement for a prescribed number of years(not many at all) we will all build you a house on the land, when we actually get it. of course the house will be very simple, eco-friendly, probably made from cob construction, with passive solar technology. On the farm you will be free to start buisnesses and co-ops, as long as you are still fullfilling the 20hr a week, 9 month a year requirement. I will have my buisness, which is the farm, and other projects seperate from the farm. It is my hopes that we can live in harmony, while maintaining our individuality, integrity, and imperfections. I am not looking to get rich off of you, or not trying to get away without pulling my fair share. when the farm buisness begins to turn a profit, then the profits will be shared. I do plan on retaining the control of the farm and the funds, so that i can ensure that they are directed twords making our home grow. I could get long winded about my dreams about how the farm will transform into a self-sustaining eco-village . . . but that is far far into the future, and focuses too much on the ideal situaltion, and abandons the practicle hurdles that have yet to be overcome. I have many ideas for the projects will will work on with our 20hrs, and will welcome and encourage all of your ideas. I am interested in talking to anyone who may be interested inhelping me build and sail this ship, so either post or PM me. I need patient people, this is not an instant gratifcation proposal. i am hoping that at somepoint later this year, me and my crew will relocate together somewhere . . . probably close to kentucky because that is where i'd like to put the farm, and find us our jobs and shared space, and begin working at our projects. let me know if this sounds like a plan for you thanks kids
I like the sound of it. Hopefully in the coming months our paths will cross and we can talk FTF. You going to gatherings this year?
i been travelin a buch, i managed to score a job and am tired from bein homeless, so i dunno know if im goin to the gathering. although i here it might be near here, so i might pop in just to bring an old head up and stick around for a night or two. sodabandito - maybe. for the good of all i have to determin if someones going to be a plus or a minus to the cause.
The ecovillage is a dream, the farm is the goal. once i have the farm, if the people livin and workin on it do good, and we come up with enough ideas, talents, and loot, then it will sprout an ecovillage. I'd like to have the farm in Kentucky, S. Ohio, PA, Canada, North Carolina, or Minnesota in that order.
I could be interested. My boyfriend and I are looking to get involved in a project and eventually get out of the "real world". I am very interested in cob construction. And, we're currently living in Lexington, Kentucky. I think something that is still forming would suit us well, as I believe we have a lot of ideas to offer. Feel free to PM or e-mail me. Cheers!

Anyone joining a community should think long and hard first. I have lived in group settings and on my own land. In my experince, living on land I own is MUCH better. I think the best arrangement is where land owners work together - Share a tractor, help with work on big projects, even eat together, but have a place they can call their own at the end of the day. Most of the communities I have watched first hand fell apart because of fighting between the members unless they are a cult with a strong leader. I would enjoy visiters at my place, but travel to and from the Alaska bush is prohibitive expensive for most people just looking for a week or two of retreat time.
