I've used that pattern site to make my baby's diapers, and btw diapers are WaY worse for the environment than tampons, people, so just remember, when you have babies, there will be no period to worry about anyway and your garbage could be reduced to barely nothing if you go cloth... and it will actually make a difference in what you see in the garbage, smell in it, and how heavy it is, whoa. OK, so pills and IUDs aren't for everyone, and the depo shot can suck, but the BIG LIE of birth control pills-- scientists actually make the pill on a 24 on 7 off schedule to FORCE, or allow, however you look at it, your bodies to have a period every month. They could make them so you would not have a period at all during the time you take birth control, which you shouldn't do more than 5 years at a time, but that's a lot of relief in my opinion. I have an IUD and have had no period for over a year now. This doesn't happen for every woman, most actually just have a much smaller and less painful period, but that will still reduce your need for filling up the garbage. It's honestly a little creepy not to have a period, but I know the benefits way outweigh the creepiness, and I take a pregnancy test every few months just to make sure, but they sell those things at the DOLLAR STORE now!! I used to have to pay 20 bucks for those things!! Happy with the no . Becca
Wow, I can't believe no one made a comment about the diagram of the lady inserting the sponge. I found it unusual that her hand is half way up her puss...
I use cloth pads and sea sponges for years now. I think it is great and feel I am doing my body and the environment a big favour with that. I am actually quite suprised how many women in here think about the period as being gross and find it disgusting to wash pads/sponges with their own blood in it. Imo that is very sad and I believe that it is one of the reasons why so many women have cramps and pains in the first place. The mind has a strong influence on the body and if one thinks about the mens as a curse, than imo it is no wonder that it will be a curse too. From my experience I can say, that the more comforable I got with my period the less pain it would give me. Washing you bloody pads/sponges is a good way to to get in contact and make friends with the natural processes of your body that make you a female. Nothing disgusting about that. Btw it feels very good on my hands when I wash out the pads/sponges, the skin gets really nice and soft and like somebody else mentioned before plants love the water blood mix as a fertilizer and grow like mad from it.
i doubt pads and tampons are the major source of pollution, but thanks for the laugh.. that may be fine for others, but dont use the "its polluting the world" reason.. i like my tampax and will continue to use them....
Just think about when we do not need the tampons or pads and instead do diapers, ever change diapers that are disposable......now that is mind bending. Even the saving up for the 9 1/2 months would not cover the next couple of years of land fill..... Wow....you do not have much to worry about. BTW I did cloth with both of my kids other than when I travelled.......but that is not the point. This is trivial in that I am and was willing to wash diapers as I thought it was better for my children.....but I am and would not be willing to wash bloody pads....even though I no longer would need to...NOT going to happen.
I don't know, washable pads ok, since they don't go IN there. It's not so much I hygienical issue. But with tampons it is. Also 'I doupt that tampons are such a cause of pollution. Mine are made out of cotton, and a cotton string. Both totally biodegradable, you can compost that stuff! And they are bleached ecological, meaning no chlorine used! About the all day pad use, that is something totally different, it's unnessasary, since all white stains wash out perfectly, and it's more harmful to use these things, then it is healthy. And pads with a lot of plastic foils are another issue of course. But I don't use them since they feel like matrasses in the pants! I am also not afraid of my bodies blod. I touch it, I don't need an aplicator, and yes my hands get bloody from time to time, but it's ok because it's all mine. But I still do have cramps.
This is part of the keeper's return policy... So I guess I could receive a product that was up some other woman's bird? Nice.....I don't care how much they washed it, no thanks.
All I can say is thank God for all you women who appreciate what we are being given. and thank god for all those cramps so we can appreciate what amazing value plants have besides just looking pretty. I also just started using the keeper and I think it's great!! And I think all this pads and tampon use is disgusting...where is it all going?? really, I mean think about if you had to store all the used bloody things in your backyard....uugghh...I absolutely love menstrating..I love that we are given a really cool gift of a monthly cleansing. damn, it happens, so why complain and curse it??
the link doesnt work for me RAHHH someone explain to me what these sea pearls are all about anyway... they sound scary to me...
There is no need to get upset or hostile about this subject ( to those who have obvious problems with cloth pads or reusable tampons). It's all a matter of choice. I prefer cloth pads to disposable because not only am I helping keep the earth free and clear of more waste, but I am doing something healthier for my body. It's not for everyone and that is fine. I think alot of the attitude towards this kind of thing is due to lack of understanding and not really being open to it. Maybe if those of you who find this so gross and disgusting did some more research, you'd find that it really isn't as "high maintanence" as it seems.
haha you read my mind... No one will ever convince me to not use my tampax, just like no one will convince the ones who wear recyclable things... Who cares really, when it comes to my feminie products, only I am in charge of that thank you very much... To each their own...its as simple as that...
Thank you, Sew. There is no need for people to get hostile about it. It's not like someone is trying to pass a law. Many people ARE concerned enough about the planet to do some extra work even for a little enviromental gain, and I think that is great. Thi reminds me of cloth diaper "discussions" on Babycenter, when disposable users would attack the cloth diapering mamas. Hey, no one said you HAVE to use reusable hygeine products. But it is a good idea to help the Planet. If convenience means more to you, go ahead, use them for an hour and throw away........
for the record: I'm not hostile about opening up my mind to different feminine products, i just dont understand how some people can actually ENJOY having their period... im hostile about my period, lol. but i would be glad to try other products that are better for the environment...just because im hostile about my period, doesnt mean i have the right to treat the environment with hostility but seriously, the link isnt working for me so please, someone explain to me what the sea pearls are, ive honestly never heard of them.
i wasnt suggesting the idea that i would never try anything else, i was just baffled that someone could actually enjoy having their period. maybe for some people it's worse, and some people it's not bad at all....I dont know about you, but there are a few things that happen during my time of the month, that just could never equal out to being enjoyable for me: 1. i lose my sanity. completely. 2. i hurt so badly that i can barely walk, no matter what remedies i use to help stop the pain. [the dr. is actually thinking i might have endomitriosis though, so that could explain it] 3. all i do is SLEEP and i cant wake up...and when someone wakes me up, i want to kill them 4. i gain about 10 pounds...i know it's all water weight and it goes away when it's over, but for the time being it pisses me off. i have my period right now and i want to shoot myself.
yeah, I hear ya.. I have endometriosis so my time of the month is like a massacre and makes me wish i had a set of balls I know you werent suggesting that, I added that just for the thread..not anyone in particular..
lol okay... oh my god, i know how you feel. i get so fucking jealous of every man alive on this earth...lucky bastards.
