If you are talking about what to bring beyond the obvious (clothes would be nice): Hammer, cresent wrench, screwdriver (both flat and Phillips), needle-nose pliers. Wastebasket
I think clothes are optional.....but food,.......and some forms of recreation....chemical or non-chemical are essential.....lol!
Comfy pillows, candles, extra blankets, comfy clothes (sweats, pjs, etc), advil, tissues, trash can, computer, comfy chair, pictures of friends/ pets/ other things from home, phone, mini vacuum cleaner, baby wipes, paper towels, cd player, music, alarm clock, snacks, colorful stuff to cover up the drab walls... So I'm not in college yet but I've spent some time in dorms for various things (band caaaaaaaamp) so I kind of have an idea of what I would need if I was there longer. Definatly lots of cleaning stuff because I tend to spill stuff EVERYWHERE. Imma messy kid.
A small first aid kit is always nice to have around. My school's dorms aren't air-conditioned, so fans are necessary (also great for keeping the room less smoke-filled if you are allowed to smoke in the room). I recommend a refrigerator for keeping leftovers and beer. Plants, even if it's just one little green thing, are always nice. With the layout of outlets in most rooms I've seen, a power strip or two is essential. I think that's all for now.
A garbage pale, paper towels, & air freshening spray...because you never know when your roommate is going to stumble in while drunk, only to throw up all over you and/or your CDs/computer/hamster/anything you regard as important.
