Nobody is a Republican when they are 18, but I guaran-fucking-tee that when you grow up and have a family to support you will be a registered Republican, or at least a Moderate Democrat.

    I actually agree.

Like my step-dad tells me... "If you're not a liberal at your youth, you have no heart; if you're not conservative as an adult, you have no brain".

everyone knows that is bullshit... look at the most influential "liberals" of history... they were all adults... and extremely intelligent... MLK Jr, Malcom X, Ralph Nader, the list goes on and on... people just say you become conservative when your an adult as an excuse to why they are conservative... people become older and want the present to be like the past when they were growing up, that's the only reason one might become more "conservative"... but there is a HUGE difference between being conservative and being a republican... there is no excuse for being a republican. Supporting the government, the president, and the actions of it is entirely hypocritical to what "conservativism" is... doing these things makes you partially responsible for murder in my books, which is why they will never gain respect from a lot of people.

Ralph Nader one of the most influential liberals in history????? You gotta be kidding me. And Malcom X? Racist bigot who preached violence.

And Mui, you really have no idea what you're talking about because you have zero experience in adulthood, and havn't had the chance to see your political ideals change.

Looking at you in about 10 or 15 years will see some very different politics coming out of you.

I guarantee it because it happens to everybody. Sure, you may not become a Republican, but I know you won't be the same Commie/Anarchist/Nihlist/Fish Store worker that you are now. You will become much more conservative, especially if you ever start a family, buy a house, start working at a real job, with real responsibilities, or own a business.

And sure, MLK & Ralphie may be liberals, but they are a far cry from some of the far-left commie dogma that gets spewed on this site. Next to you, MLK would look like a full fledged NeoCon, and I seriously doubt he would support what is going on in todays black community, or affirmative action.

this completly leaves out the difference between social and economic liberal /conservatism

at the moment, I don't make much money. thusly, from a purely economic standpoint, it makes sense for me to vote liberal, as it typicaly puts me in a lower tax bracket. If I made millions, i'd want to vote economically conservative, as that usually favors lower taxes for the wealthy.

BUT, why would my social opinions change? Will I wake up, and decide in my mid life crisis that I feel the sudden need to oppose same sex marriage? that doesnt make sense.

conservative economic policies reward the hard working and the successful. Most people learn this as they get older, then when they retire and want stuff for free, they go back to democrat. The people who mainly support liberal democrats are those who want something for nothing: the young, the old, and minorities. by the way, im a minority and do not support that shit

the losers in capitalism voted liberal and the winners vote conservative. liberals view diversity as looking different but thinking the same as them. This is shown by the actions of democrats at the appointment of Condi Rice, a black woman, as attonery general and has been drug through the mud because she is conservative.

I hope you know that's not an original quote.

Of course there are young conservatives. I know quite a few.

So, Libertarians must be the geniuses. FREE political freedoms, FREE economic freedoms.

At 30, I am not an old man, but I went from a Republican (5 years ago) to an out and out Libertarian minarchist.

The only reason anyone would go "conservative" in their old age is because they are too old and lazy to fight anymore and just give up and conform.

Or they would rather hang on to more of their own hard earned money to feed, clothe, and shelter their family with, instead of pissing it away into bloated government programs.

unless u chose to work hard doing something that doesnt involve exploitation of poorer peoples. Social workers, illegal immigrants, teachers are some of the hardest workers i can think of, and in this system to seem to be at the bottum of the totem pole. capitalism has nothing to do with hard work, ruthlesness, and acting without a conscience gets u to the top and u know it...
