I went to the beach on Tuesday and got a wicked bad sunburn...I refuse to wear sunblock most of the time because they all give me a rash or make me break out. So i have three questions. How can I get rid of the pain fast? What is a good sunblock/sunscreen I can use that won't make me break out or get a rash? How can I get the burn to become tan? I have some lotion with aloe that I've been applying frequently...but ti doesn't seem to be helping. I am competing in a dance competition tomorrow and I need to heal fast cuz it hurts to even move...YIKES! HELP!
Use straigh aloe-and then lay infront of a fan. I had 2nd degree sunburns last year-I was in tears. I could even sleep on my stomach cause of how bad my back was burned. That helped like a champ!
I just had the worst burn last week, about 8 hours straight sunlight with no sunbloc. Anyway, I dunno about turning it into a tan, but I got this solarcaine spray anesthetic stuff, and it does really help with the pain.
Run a cool bath with a couple cups of oatmeal (in cheesecloth). Oatmeal is soothing for the skin. If you don't mind the stink of vinegar, you can add some of it to the bath. It stings for a second but kinda numbs the skin a bit. Other than that, aloe is your best bet. Can you use other lotions without rashing? If you can, compare ingredients to try and find out what it is that you react to. Do you have a Body Shop near you? I have sensitive skin too, but their stuff has never given me problems.
As far as types of sun block, I have the same problem as you. I have ended up buying 50spf that is made for babies (I can't remember the brand, it's in a pink bottle). It smells wicked, but it works like a charm. I even got a tan last time I went out... and I've never had a tan in my life. To sooth, I use Bactine. It comes in a spray canister and feels wonderous. There are also other brands of spray medicine that are used for burns... check them out at the store. Ones that numb you are the best, and they don't even hurt during application. Good luck!
Take oral anti-inflammatories, they will help with the swelling. Large doses of vitamin C and E are possibly helpful, like 2000mg of C/day and 800iu of E/day, for a few days. Use an aloe based sunburn relief gel that contains lidocaine, and take cool (NOT cold) baths.
Try slathering noxema (the face wash) on your sunburn, or have someone do it for you. It will feel nice and cool and will feel even better if you sit in front of a fan. It has always worked for me and my sisters. I would probably keep rubbing aloe on your burn after you wash all the noxema off.
