I have a Trojan on my computer that I can not find.
when I go to the search option on my computer it says

'software\vendor refers to a location that is unvailable. it could be on a harddrive on this computer or on a network. check to make sure that the disk is inserted properly or that you are connected to the internet or network, and then try again. if it still can not be located, the information may have been moved somewhere else.'

btw the trojan says that its in this file>> HKLM\software\vendor\xml

I think the name of the Trojan is Common Components, but I'm not sure.

All I know is that its on my computer and I would like to get rid of it, does anyone have any clue about this? or how i can solve this problem?

also does anyone have any good anti virus programs I can DL for free. I use Spyware Dr. right now (but that doesnt seem to be helping very much), I also use Zone Alarm. but the Zone Alarm isnt too effective unless I have a good spyware program.

Sheesh, sorry for the long entry you guys. Just desperate for some help.
    thanks in advance.

If you have a good firewall it should stop trojans from being able to access the net, or call home if you will. I would recommend that you check out a program called a-squared. It's a free trojan detection/removal program. A good free anti-virus is AVG

Spybot ROCKS! Don't forget to install "Tea Time"!
I run Norton, Spybot S&D, and SpywareBlaster.
    I'm cool for protection.

Before scanning it would be ok to disconect from the internet just temporarly remove your lan cable. This will prevent the bug from connecting to the net. Good one Mat tea time protects your ie settings.
Also clean up with crap cleaner which is a nice tool ,mc afee stinger could help with quick detection a nice anti virus tool.
After detection and cleaning set a secure password for your anti mal ware that keeps your security settings from being changed without you knowing.
Set spybot to tweak: ie,resident proctection/erase tracks .
    .....I think :)

I'm just learning about this stuff (so most of the dudes on here will know a LOT more than me about it) but could you or your software have "quarantined" the Trojan? I Quarantined a Trojan that won't go away. But because I quarantined it, I can't access it, to do anything with it. It is partially eliminated, because I get a stupid message every time I boot about the fact that it can't be located. I think it is called "Wild Tangent."

maggie sugar, it probably got removed, but is still trying to run at startup.

try start - run - msconfig
go to the 'startup' tab, and uncheck any item that has anything to do with wildtangent.

and while you're in there, uncheck anything else you don't want to run each time you start your computer
