If I understand this correctly your router does not have an integrated DNS server. If that is the case you should be able to copy the default gateway and subnet from your existing XP machine’s network configuration to the new machine. Just be sure to give it a unique IP.

On XP I believe these settings are found under the network icon in control panel. Just select the connection from you currently configure machine, and left select properties. From there chose TCP/IP from the list of interface components and look up its properties. On the new machine you can go to networking and select add a connection. From there you will get some sort of configuration wizard, and I believe can just enter the gateway and subnet information on one of the pages. Just be sure to give it a unique IP address so it does not conflict the current machines.

If this doesn’t solve the problem let me know.

  3. got it working last night by dumb luck, I changed the ips on everything (I mean everything) in a nearly random fashion (there was some slight logic behind it but only very slight) thanks for the help though
