I was just wondering how one comes about creating a self-sufficent, commune or communal living area. It kind of intrests me how its done, i would imagine a lot of work going into making such an arrangement. If its possible could you give details, the problems that came up, and the costs.

Its a truly amazing idea and way i life. I have a lot of respect for anyone who has the motivation, love, and caring to start one of these!!!:)

Also i was wondering if you need to be experienced at farming and things like that to be a member of a commune, or are you open to anyone who is open minded and ready to learn and commit?

p.s. sorry if i come off as inexperianced or ignorant... im a bit young, and definitly new to these kind of things.:p

I believe the ingredients for a commune are as follows:
    - land
    - love

I haven't started one yet... so i can't tell you my trials and tribulations. but as far as the practicality of how the sustainable aspects work you can check out a great book called Solviva by Anna Edey.

I think the biggest conflict in a commune environment is the individual itself and unlearning our destructive sociological and psychological patterns. usually someone will steal from the community, or the community turns into a controlling cultish environment - or there is a lack of structure to the point that it just turns into complete chaos...

I've seen ppl that are 'against babylon' or what have you but are totally still running on low frequencies and destructive patterns and they don't even realize it. and i've seen ppl 'in babylon' that live without self destructive habits and patterns....

my dream is to combine technology with old ways and create an environment that fosters the spirit to thrive in individuals. i want to have resources such as psychological and spiritual counseling, healing arts such as massage, yoga and aikido and whatever else is brought in - in combination with technology. I want to start with an operation that i guide to a certain point, having it be a place of information where people can come to learn and heal, and then branch out or start another project that is more of an expiramental eco-village style where the same concepts can be adopted, but i would not be 'in charge' per say -it would be more like the traditional societal expiraments of peaceful and harmonious living.

I wish I had some helpful advice but the most I can say is that the idea is beautiful and if ever I was to find one that seemed like it would work perfectly for me ..my personality and of course my family then I would be all about it...I would be apart of that life :)

absolutely, but just as important is a strong work ethic among members. nothing is free, and living the dream isnt the laid back paradise that you might invision, but for it to last usually takes harder work than city life. you must have zeal for the labor and be willing to sweat, get callouses, and sometimes be completely exhausted at the end of the day. its worth the rewards. so I'd add to the stew:

    - labor

heya Yogi - sometimes I think it be sad that we be on opposite sides of the continent - we talk so the same trip though generational gap notwithstanding - though at other times I think it be good that there be many such fonts
Keep on a truckin and Growin

The most important thing I can add is the going ahead and Doing it though it be in small degree - though it be 'just' a communal house in a city - feed your dreams by activating for without that they fester and we become resentful of our life because we are not Being all we can be - and that my friends is the one most important thing you ever can do for yourself or help another person come to within themself.

    Blessings along your Way
