I’m looking for a Civil war era movie where a Confederate woman falls in love with a Yankee solider, or visa versa. Does anyone have a suggestion?

are you looking for a movie you know...or just the premise?

Just the premise... I am fairly certain that one must exist. It may just be an idea formulated in my own mind.

North and South (with Patrick Swayze) has that premise.

There's a really good civil war film with Alec Guinness as King Charles but I forget what it was called.

I can't think of any movies with that premise but, I am sure there are some out there. I do know that Quantum Leap did an episode where Sam is transformed back to the Civil War as a his great-grandfather who was a yankee soldier. He falls for a southern lady who turns out to be his great-grandmother. That is all I could come up with.

The trouble with the Civil War films though is that they all portray Cromwell as a bloody hero. The man was an evil bastard, a sectarianist mass-murderer and a bloody Puritan (ie Anglican minus apathy) as well!
