So, do you think that Tom Cruise's scientology affected this movie in any way? For some reason, when the story unravels at the end and we start learning about this lucid dreaming and this Institute that watches over him....it just felt eerily religious, but modern, and organized..and emphasizing "taking control of your life"..and all I could think was scientology. Whatdya think? Maybe I should watch "Open Your Eyes" since that came first...that might answer some of my questions.
I thought the movie was alright... it's a thinker. Waste of a good classic car though. I just found the lucid dreaming part (seeing he is dead) was unexplained. I mean in the sense that they didn't really go into detail on how they are keeping his brain alive while he is dead.. or at least giving him "entertainment"..while he is dead. But that is scientology for ya. It was also hard to see Brody in a movie where he wasn't a tracer or closet homosexual.

OK Cassi, Tom Cruise is dead. Through the whole movie. The stuff about meeting Cruz and getting in the wreck with Diaz happened in his past. They reconstructed his face the best they could while he was in a coma. They did give him a mask, but he shut himself off from the world after he found out the Cruz was seeing Brody from Chasing Amy. He set up a deal with LE (Life Extentions Inc.) and purposly over dosed so he could be awaken in the future and be compleately healed and such. Not just because of Cruz.. but also the pain from the wreck. Thats about it. All the bad stuff we see. jail.. and cruz/dias switch was his dreams.. that stuff didn't happen. The company LE sold him an "entertainment package"...yes he is dead...so that he won't be bored...while dead. Dumb if you ask me.. they mention that they were going to wipe his memory. So why bother wasting the money. That is the scientology part They pretty much explain it at the end of the movie. But the one thing they mentioned was that He had to make a decission on being revived or go back to hibernation. They go out of the way to mention something like" If we revive you you won't be able to survive fanacialy in this time. So does that mean he's stuck in a block of dry ice?
I thought this movie was weird.....and I like weird stuff, but I couldn't follow it. This movie was also made around the same time as MAGNOLIA, which was long and made me sleepy. Yes, I am of the opinion that scientology played a role in Vanilla Sky.
Well i thought the movie was about his friend 'Brody' living toms life for him.. It was realy confusing because it gave away not a awful lot. i noticed the cine camera footage that was supposed to be of toms dad..but you can clearly see 'brody' in it bit of a laugh / possibly.. but still i still can't work the bugger out (and i have notched up about 6 viewings). Maybe when we all come back as cats in will become perfectly clear.

bullocks... the movie made sense to me the first time i watched it. Well the sciencetology part was far fetched, but heck it's a movie with sci-fi laced in it.
