Mind puzzle to just mess you up

In India, There was a table. it was big, black, kind of nice looking... but anyway, on the table, there was an ant! and there was some sugar too (ants like sugar).

I just want to know why the ant isn't crawling/walking toward the sugar.

now, there is onlly one answer to this question.

The table was not a table that we put physical items on but a list, a chart. A table detailing various things contained in some kind of store house. It was was made from some black stuff, or maybe wood that had been painted black. The listing of items was done through a series of etchings in the material of the table, much how ancient peoples made tables of this kind. One of the items listed was sugar. The ant happened to be crawling across the table, not going towards the sugar.

the ant already reached the sugar, ate his fill, and is headed back to the anthill to get his freinds and become famous and reknowned among all the ants. Maybe even get some action with the queen.
