do you ever question reality?

Discussion in 'The Whiners' started by acetonephish, Jun 6, 2005.

  1. rock hits you in the head is pretty damn real, but all of human behaviour isn't...... poverty isn't real, it's just a descision, crime, pain suffering, they aren't real, just descisions, no more material than fleeting em impulses........ and since thought can't be proven real, not really, not with so many fucked concepts out there, nothing that isn't material is real, and even most material things are dreams and machinations assembled from true reality.....

    Poverty a decision?

    Are you blind?

Get off your ass, go to any third world country, and then honestly tell me that poverty is a decision!

you're right! poverty isn't a decision, it's a mental illness *prepares to get flamed to death*

i agree with descartes, no i cant prove my life exists, or any of you and so on exist, but i am a thinking thing thinking things, so whatever i appear to be experiencing is as good a reality as any i suppose. i try not to worry too much about it anymore, i cant prove they existence as any other realities (such as in descartes 'evil demon' theory) so i can easily make do with what my senses are telling me, real or not

Since I'm one of two people who voted NO, I'll explain myself I guess.

I've always accepted "reality" as something that is just a literary term to describe a collective agreeance of how things are. Perspective has been talked about in this thread... and so I'll continue on with the trend.

As far as we know, everyone has the capability of interpreting any situation differently from the next person (point of view). Since reality is what we percieve to be, then everyone's reality is different. Since the term "reality" as commonly used, refers to a collective idea, I don't ever question it. I accept that reality is individual, not something that can be harnessed into one concept.

For an extremely simple example: Color
We've never proven that two humans actually see the same color (as far as I'm aware, I'd be interested in an article if anyone knows of one). Lets say that there is a "yellow" flower and a "blue" flower, as seen by Bonnie. There is more chance than not that Jack sees the "yellow" flower as "red", and the "blue" flower as "pink". Since Jack has been told that the literary term for what he sees as red is "yellow" in his reality it is still "red." ...that probably made no sense.

To close, I have a quote: "The real secret of magic is that the world is made of words, and if you know the words that the world is made of you can make of it whatever you wish."

Who cares what you believe in?

You do not even know what poverty or the cycle of poverty is!

I question reality constantly. I see no reason not to do so.

What is reality anyway? Is it what we see? What we hear? What we smell? What we feel? What we taste? Because, if that's reality, then nothing can be real... All of our senses are information our body feeds to our brain, and how our brain interprets that information is how we perceive the world around us. Whose to say that it is vastly complicated, and what we see is a simplistic version of it? What if the fourth dimension exists right in front of us? Aren't we in it now? Not our bodies, but ourselves...

See, this is why reality can not be explained; it is not constant, and far from absolute...

Exactly...... Many people wonder IF THIS IS JUST A MOVIE WE ARE LIVING!!!! (Notice how alot of 'movies' TURN OUT TO BE REAL EVENTS)

How do we know if any of this IS EVEN REAL??

Our minds make up this so called "Reality" -- WHO KNOWS!!

    A very good thread!!
