I'm thinking about getting a tattoo, but how much does it hurt? I have only done piercings before which havent hurt anything really, but tattoos apparently hurt.. well a lot. I don't know wether to do one or not because of that but I think I probably will in the end anyway...

I personally don't think a tattoo hurts.. Its more uncortable where its put on your body... Anyplace that is bony is more uncomforable.. .But Its tollerable (i actually like it ;))

I don't think it was THAT bad, and I'm a wimp. :) I plan on getting another.

It just depends on your pain tolerance. I've got two-one above my inside ankle, and one on my shoulderblade. Neither hurt too bad. More of a stinging feeling. My tattoo artist said that he has seen grown men cry when they get done on their stomachs, though. It's very sensitive. I just kinda space out and listen to the music that's playing.

No single part of a tatto is excruciating, but over the course of several hours, it canm become unpleasant. If you're really worried about the pain, I'd suggest several shorter sessions rather than one big one.

Honestly, any pain you've experienced with a body piercing is going to be more intense than the tattoo, but the tattoo isn't over as fast.

    Peace

I find that after some time in the chair, the area begins to numb a little bit and it's truley not that bad.

I would say it hurt... hurt quite a bit. Admittedly at a point the endorphins kick in and you get all spacey and dont' notice/feel the pain as much. The upper part of my tat hurt the most, made me flinch a little (well, want to flinch and barely managed to keep from literally flinching, because that would've been bad).

It's not that it doesn't hurt. It's that it hurts long enough and at a low enough level that your body adapts to it, at least in my experience

yeah, ihmurria's right - it takes about 20 minutes for the endorphins to kick in, then you have about an hour or so till they start wear off. actually though, girls do much better than the guys with the pain - it hurts of course, but they handle it better. we're working on a book - 'the faces of pain' - lol!!! of our customers/friends/selves getting inked. i never get any good shots of the girls wincing, they are all smiles - even the grandma, she got a lovely frog on her ankle, lots of colors. got some good ones of the guys though!! between the shoulder blades on the spine is a bad place, and the inner upper arm - ever wonder why some guys don't get armbands that go all the way around? feet are supposed to be rough too - my hubby hasn't done any foot tats yet though. another consideration is color or just black/greywash - with the black ink you don't have to go over areas that have already been tattooed too much, but doing colors means going back to areas already worked to put in different colors for details, highlights ect. my hubby loves to color, he's a demon about 'just sit still a little more, it'll look so much better!' he likes tatting girls better, they twitch less and can stand the pain longer so are better canvases :)

Yeah, I also heard about that it hurts less the more flesh you have where the tattoo is going to be.

_The tolerance to pain varies from person to person, so it will depend of 1. what you call pain & 2. how tolerant you are to it.
