I got lucky and scored a ticket for the first night of Phish's summer tour which took place just next to Coney Island. Out of the 24 shows that i've been to, this one was absolutely without a doubt the best one. shall we look at the setlist? Set I: Song I Heard The Ocean Sing1, Dinner and a Movie, The Curtain With, Sample in a Jar, The Moma Dance> Free, Nothing1, Maze, Frankenstein Set II: 46 Days> Possum, The Oh Kee Pa Ceremony> Suzy Greenberg> Axilla, Also Sprach Zarathustra, Birds of a Feather, Kung, Mike's Song> I am Hydrogen> Weekapaug Groove Encore: The Divided Sky it was the first time they've played "song i heard the ocean sing" and "nothing" was only the 5th time they've played "the curtain", it was the first time in 4 years they've played "dinner and a movie" and besides all that they rocked us out with just the sickest versions of the songs in the setlist that i'd heard. It rained on us for a good while and most people got pretty soaked but everyone was dancing and having a blast. Just as the boys walked offstage before the encore i was thinking to myself "how in the hell could it be any better??" the only thing i could think of that would make the show any better was if it'd included "divided sky" which is my alltime favorite phish song and one that i've never gotten to see live in my 7 years of going to shows. It was only the second time ever that it's been played as an encore. So you can imagine my disbelief and then extacy when they came back on for the encore and began playing a gorgeous rendition of this tremendous song. I truly dont feel any regret at all for not being able to go to any other shows on this tour (except coventry.. i'll be there) because it would be utterly impossible for me to enjoy a show any more than i did this one. They played an amazing show that was already right up there with my top few that i'd been to , but then they came on and blew me even further away with the divided sky encore. truly magical. i feel like if i never see a phish show again that it will be o.k. because the magic of this one show will dwell within me for the rest of my life. just had to share my excitement RedStar
