I hate all these movies getting out with the same fucking packaging, whether it is going to one more movie where someone has the save the world or some teen movie or some dumb story involving a bunch of bleached sluts... In the catastrophy movies the typical ingredients are going to be the natural phenomenon like the meteor or the big wave or some volcano, or the terrorists and the American president (the PERFECT president, of course), the super-hero, the girl, the fights, the suspense... Teen movies like American Pie it's basically always the same script with a few new words and songs, maybe a slightly different story but always trying to give an image of America that is just not fucking real, but makes all the kids want to make it a reality and that is terrible. And well, in general, the point of the movie is not quality and originality, but copying that other movie that sold so well, and make the new one sell even more. They should all go to trash!
thats what i always say...but people just tune me out when i say it... all romantic comedies are pretty much the same nowadays...and they keep getting awards...so they keep making shitty films...and keep winning... but people are stupid so they keep going to see the same fucking flm with a different title... action movies are the same too...horror films are the same...it's terrible... but stupid people keep going to see the shitty films...and so they keep going on...
I agree with the above, and I'd say that these movies create alot of stereotypes, and these are pretty negative most of the time. Alot of people think that American films are a reflection of reality there...
I think my parents get very tired of me saying things like that about hollywood films. im sure it bugs the hell out of them. some people are very easily amused, and some people dont realize how much better films and music that are out there that you dont see or hear on the tv and the radio. i bet theres maybe 3 , MAYBE 3 good hollywood films a year. thats sad.
There's a place for everything... Not everyone wants to see some thought provoking melodrama or complex film noir... Some people just want to see their favourite "stars" being the hero in the latest 'blockbuster' ... and I'm not going to knock them for that... to each their own. Personally, I don't watch these type of movies much either... but I'm not going to moan about their existence.. Sometimes they even make a change from self-indulgent independent film making... *shrugs* I dunno.. I guess I'm getting too objective in my old age.. lol
yeah Jim, you just dont care anymore. its just rediculous that these are the films making all the money, and anyone with the right mind can make better films. they probably coul dif they wanteed to, but i guess they wouldnt make much money. thats all that matters here. and forget teh starts, with their good looks and bad acting. for me, thats te last thing i want to see.
Well, that proves that you don't need money or a "star" to have a good film, doesn't it? You just said it for yourself. So, what are you worrying about?
you missed my point man. thats what im trying to say, that you dont need that to make a good film but you certainly need it for the film to make money, and thats the only reason this "shit" is coming out. its like the crappier the script, the more money itl make. I know people who will only check out new hollywood films, and never anything else. hollywood used to make a good amount of great films. now its so limited.
I agree they should make more movies exactly like fear and loathing in Las Vegas, but with more Nudity and a talking cat!!!!!
i agree with what was said, but to an extent. but it's really not hollywoods fault that these movies are making money. but then again they do have the power to have a major movie release and an endless amount of promotion. i mean just last month i had van helsing all up in face when ever i watched tv or when i nab some fast food. anyway what im saying is that the people have been buying into this shit since god knows when. it's the people to blame. any of you tarantino fans? if so do you agree with the opening post?
Hollywood was the reason because of I turned to the Japanese movies, they are totally mind blowed. Have you seen "Suicide Club" or "Kairo". That's cinema. Japanese are bloody good making movies.
yeah supposedly, its almost a fact that asian films are the best being made right now, and its a smaller budget. i ahvent seen much yet, but my cousins obssessed with asian cinema. has something like 185 asian dvds...
i was thinking about this yesterday. I guess most people are just too easily amused and stupid. I'd say world cineme is superb, classy and clever...unlike Hollywood crap that's always the same formula that Penny described. It's so ridiculous that only because the US has more recognition, their films get more credit from people (well they're mainstream) whilst good talented directors struggle to get their message accross... by the way , has anyone seen City of God?
if you don't like new films, watch old ones- stuff like rocky horror and young frankenstein had much lower budgets than movies today (rocky horror had about 1.4 million I think), but are still very good to watch I agree that the same turgid comedy romance films from hollywood are getting tedious though
thats just how it is and always has been. well except for the late 60s and 70s i guess. i watched a show on ifc the other night called a generation under the infulence. which was talking how the success of easy rider made the studios give all the power to the artists.
THE NINE LIVES OF FELIX THE CAT!!!!!!!!!!!! (i hope someone knows what im talkin about i may have the name wrong, but i think its right)
I totally agree with you, Laety. Popular American films today are so predictable and unengaging...it's terrible. I haven't been to the cinema in months. Lately, I've been much more interested in renting older films and independent films, as opposed to the bullshit that's popular. It's sad, because there was a time when not all popular American films were predictable and unintelligent. If only directors like Kubrick were still around... I get frustrated sometimes at close friends of mine who insist that popular film today isn't bad. I mean, I saw Pirates of the Caribbean at some point last year, hated it, and it just pisses me off to no end to hear people describe it as being "original", "good", and even "one of the best films of 2003". It's just feeding into the endless crap that permeates popular cinema. It isn't good art at all.
These enw films are all the same!! i know soeone has said that but its true! I dont like any films now..and as ime a big horror fan, the latest horror films are just trash! Stick to the old ones people, James Dean is better than any of these crappy actors these days , Rebel without a cause is a movie, not that american pie bullshit!
