There are tons of people wearing crosses which undoubtably would remind jesus of the pain he felt on the cross. hahha... jesus got punked... Of course it wasn't necessary to die on the cross for the kingdom of heaven to exist on earth. Duhhhh..... When I meet the dork, I am gonna laugh my ass off.

Edited to add: wow. I feel sorta bad about saying that. I think the image of self sacrifice for others is a necessary component of teaching true love.

What about rappers? Or gangsters with big crosses. I think that's cool. The bling, that is. I'm gonna have my bottom teeth replaced with diamonds with gold inlay that spells "GOD$".

Or they could be pretending to be idiots. One of the things I think you gotta watch out for is people who purposefully portray themselves as ignorant just to piss you off. They are actually fucking with you and you are falling for it. I do it all the time. Usually by accident.

I dunno. God takes good care of me. Like the time I was running coke and the cop asked me "Are you trafficing drugs??" and I said "No" and the cop laughed at me and let me go (he knew).

Some people think I am a jiggalo because I live with my girlfriend who is a flight attendant, don't work, and fly anywhere for free. The truth is, God set all this up for me. I am looking forward to some moolah though... haven't had money for a long ass time. It would be fun. I wonder what people will say when I don't work, have a shitload of money, fly for free, and have a whole bunch of hot girlfriends, without trying to scam, hustle, or hurt anyone. Probably still call me a jiggalo if God uses hot chicks to give me money.

Ohh well, I can live with that.

This is one topic that I must agree with you on. "You shall not make for yourself an idol in the form of anything in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the waters below." (Exodus 20:4)

But a cross isn't an idol. No-one seriously worships a cross. If you say it is an idol, then where do you draw the line? By the same token one could say the Bible itself is an idol, since it isn't actually God, but people venerate it nonetheless.
I'd say in the case of people wearing a cross, it's more like a badge, a way of signifying what they believe, who they are even.
Or in many cases, just a fashion accessory.

If you possess the Spirit of Jesus Christ, there is no need for trinkets of silver and gold.

It's amazing how we poor, condemned heathens get closer and closer to you everyday. We say:

"If you truly love Mother Earth there is no need for stones and trinkets of gold and silver stolen from her womb".

Almost verbatim. Or is this another trick to bring us all into the fold? ;) Anyhoo, I don't even wear a watch.

    Possessing spirits??
    Making idols??

I feel like I've been time-warped back to the medieval days of superstition.

    What's next? Volcano gods?

    Goddamn...humanity is warped. :p

One time I was watching a preacher talking about the evils of wine, etc., things that I enjoyed at that point in life. He started talking about how all the things I do are evil. I was very sad because I felt that he was an authority on God and God was disapointed in me... Well, God said Ezekiel 13 to me (I didn't know it was god at the time, I thought I thought it- this was before I knew that god talks inside our souls) and I looked up the passage. I glanced at it, still feeling completely terrible, and then I saw ezekiel 13:6-8
I felt so much better to see that the preacher was lying about stuff and that I was not in the wrong with God. There was a little extra confirmation that these proselytizers were not completely honest- they were selling charm trinkets while I was reading ezekiel 13- check out the passage I saw:

Which is basically a warning not to try to cheat people by giving them false charms that you claim are blessed by God (which I believe the lady was doing- God will bless you when you are ready- you can't buy God's blessing).

    Jeremiah 10:5
Like a scarecrow in a melon patch, their idols cannot speak; they must be carried because they cannot walk. Do not fear them; they can do no harm nor can they do any good."

Scarecrow; you know, a guy up on two pieces of wood with his arms stretched out to his sides. what doe's that remind you of?

Directly or indirectly. It doesn't really matter- the one who set it all up is responsible for the outcome.

Well the first sentance is funny in sick morbid sort of way. The rest kind of ruins it though. If you had stuck to just the first sentence it would have been funny. The thing you said in a later post about getting the word $GOD$ in gold inlay on diamond teeth was much funnier:D

Which is why the vast majority of pagan religions employ all sorts of idols and ritual objects and such? Now probably there are plenty of pagans who don't use any kind of idol or objects and that is just fine with me obviously. However, I don't really get what you are trying to say here. Christ spoke against idolarty, the law of Moses speaks against idolatry, the prophets spoke against idolatry. You make it soud as if all of the sudden out of nowhere Christians have stolen this idea of anti-idolatry from pagans, and that they did it rather recently. Granted the Catholic church has practiced idolatry for centuries, and if the Catholic church was all that there was to Christianity you would have a point. This is obviously not the case.

I wonder if "idol" has to be a physical object. I mean I wonder if the term also applies to an image you hold in your head.

Yeah, but now I get to laugh at your comments. It's called investing in the future. Planting a seed.

I was serious about that. My bottom-front teeth are a little fucked up from smoking crack (or maybe from chewing coke- I used to like putting a chunk in my mouth cuz of the numbies). Incidentally, I said "GOD$" which is a pun if you think about it...

How about christians who idolize jesus, even after he told everyone to worship and pray to GOD his "father", not himself!!??? Not one person who idolizes or worships Jesus or calls him 'God' can be called "christian", nor can it be said they practice what he taught them until such time as they follow implicitly his guidance. His message has been perverted and twisted so completely that it has been almost lost to all 'christians'. In that regard, he died miserably and in vain.
How funny that christians are more responsible for satan's success than satan himself! Funny as a pork chop in Tel Aviv.

While much of what you you say is true MrRee, it seems that you did not fully understand that which you quoted. It says "You shall not make for yourself an idol" we didn't make Jesus. Now this opens the door to the question of is it alright to worship trees and animals and such. This question is addresed in various places in the Bible, though it does not, of course, say "don't worship trees and animals and such" just like that.

"I and my Father are One" - Jesus Christ. So if they're One, to pray to Jesus is to pray to His Father. At least, it seems that way to me.

I agree though that the true message has become clouded - due to human 'tinkering' rather than any fault of God.

Once again blame the creation. Sigh...

The other day my friend locked his keys in his car. "The damn keys are in the fuckin' car!" My other friend says "There he goes blaming his keys for being in the car, again...."
