This could probably go along with the Paranoid forum as well, but ...it fits here too so here goes: In the vegetarian forum I posted a link to a nifty online vegan grocery store...and I was skimming through the home page, I read somewhere that they had to pull certain products off from their shelves because the companies had mislabeled products... Meaning, that some of them "forgot" [yeah right..] to mention that a certain product had egg or milk or the like in it.... That makes me wonder, how many companies/products "forget" to tell us what they actually put in our food? It's kind of scary when you think about it... And being that I'm vegan, I know I'd be uber pissed if I was eating a certain product for a while, thinking it was vegan and then finding out that it wasn't.... Couldn't this be dubbed as false advertising? I mean, calling something vegan when it's not, is like saying something is chocolate when it's not....or the like. I just wonder how many companies get away with this everyday.....
I think it would be. I mean I dont eat pork because I am Rasta and if I find out some company had pork in a product and they mislabeled it and I ate it I would be pissed. So I understand where you are coming from. Think about people who are allergic to certain animal by-products and they got sick by eating this "mislabeled product". I think there is defiently a case against things like that!
Forgot to mention on the front or in the list of ingredients. The front label has oft been used to lure people with misleading info. If they didn't list them in the ingredients list then I think they could be in some doo doo.
They didn't list them in the ingredients, or so the website says... it says they decided to sell the products at their vegan store because all the ingredients listed UNDER the ingredients section were vegan...then they got some type of notice letting them know that Ooops the company dumb-fucked up and there were eggs in their products.
I'd think with allergy concerns actual food parts (incl eggs, dairy, nuts) would need to be listed in the US. the exact spices, "artificial and natural flavors" and the like can be protected a s proprietary info.
I've seen some labels that say it doesn't have peanuts but that the machines used to make it may have traces of peanuts on them. Some companies are very careful and others aren't. .
That's the exact problem I have. I'm allergic to MSG and so many products have it listed under other names. Also,MSG often falls under artifical flavors, natural flavors,or seasonings and spices. Some products claim to be MSG free, when in reality they're not. I'm not sure how they get away with this and other mislabeling of products..but they do get away with it so often.
I don't know what the legal situation is in Belgium. In Australia and the UK there are very strict laws in the regards of food labeling.
yes, exactly.... And I'm not exactly sure where the products were from, but the store is located in the U.S. So, that brings me to a question: if a store sells imported food, would not listing certain/any ingredients be illegal? I would think not, because I've seen japanese candy in some store... and unless you know japanese you can't read the ingredients, if they are listed. lol.
lmao, i have to say this again...I'm from a TOWN called Belgium ..it's in the U.S. located in the state of Wisconsin. I think I should just change my profile to say Wisconsin. Edit to say this: Just a fun little fact... There's two towns in Wisconsin named after countries: Belgium and Luxembourg... what's funny about it is, they messed up on the names. Belgium, where I live, was supposed to be called Luxembourg because the town was basically founded by immigrated Luxebourgers...and same story goes for the town of Luxembourg, it was supposed to be called Belgium, and the majority of the people who live there are Belgian... Aren't we Wisconsinites just geniuses?!
Well there is a place in Western Australia called Denmark.Come to think of why don't users from USA put the full name of their state in their profile instead of an abbreviation.I mean it is not as if they have to keep typing it out all the time is it.In the case of Australia I think most people would know what is meant by NSW.
Hey Bilby, lol I'll change it...just to decrease confusion. Then I don't have to keep explaining it either lol
Some "natraul flavors" are anything but. There are actully chemicals mixed to mimicking natarul occuring flavors. There's an interesting section about this in Fast Food Nation; great book. On another note did u now that McNuggets have beef flavoring added. HMMMMM
most companies dont pander to picky eaters so have no problems telling us we are eating eyballs and testicals.....the only people that really need to be lied to are vegans.
