After alot of turmoil regarding the release of Michael Moore's new film inside the United States, a distributor (Lions Gate films) has finally come aboard to promote and release Fahrenheit 9/11 within the U.S. The movie will be released into theaters nationwide starting on Friday, June 25th. I want to.. that way I have the right to make fun of it... It looks stuped.. Ray Bradburry who wrote fahrenhieit 451 is incredibly angry that moore didn't ask his permision for the title.. Really funey... 451 was an Anti-communism book.. kind of Ironic that a socialist (Moore) would use this title.. kinda simmilar to the anti bush stickers who use alusions to 1984.. another anti-communism book.. well I guess it goes to show you.. that people arn't very good w/ making jokes.. atleast gore and sore loosermen made sence.. not a funey joke but sence.. well all I can say is political parties and politicaly outspoken people might be better off not making jokes or allusions..
the humor comes from the irony in that Bush's "democracy" is slowly (or maybe not so slowly) veering from what "democracy" is supposed to be. i wouldn't say the current US government is communist, per se, or even socialist (that would be an improvement in my opinion) but it certainly is less than democratic, nearing on mild dictatorship perhaps. i'm sorry the joke was lost on you. but as i said, the humor comes from the irony that you'd expect america to be all-out democratic, when it's turning into "big brother." at the same time it IS kind of funny that moore used the title of an anti-communist book, as a socialist. didn't occur to me.
also: "gore and sore looserman" doesn't make sense. i guess "sore looserman" vaguely resembles "joe leiberman" syllabically, but they weren't sore loosers. they were just unfortunate to be running against a candidate who's daddy was former CIA director and who's relative was in charge of counting votes.
I wonder exactly how many people watch Moore's films and take everything he says and presents as gospel, without question? Probably a lot.
George Orwell was actually a staunch Socialist... his dystopian books 1984 and Animal Farm were rather his embittered indictment of the corrupt authoritarian regimes.
Being a huge fan of Bradbury, I truly hope his objections to Moore's title is nothing but a publicity stunt in support of Moore. After all, if Bradbury is asked about it by a thousand journalists (he will be!), he has a thousand opportunities to say "I did NOT give him permission to use that title, and I'm angry with him for not asking me, and it really hurts because Moore's work is top notch and I agree entirely with the foundation for that movie. Please, everyone, remove that moron from the White House." Surely Bradbury is more on Moore's side than against him. Surely. How could anyone with the brilliant mind of Ray Bradbury complain about Michael Moore's tactics- particularly when our nation is in a state of emergency, with a power-hungry monster in the White House? Regarding Orwell, I don't know a lot about him, but he's known for being socialist (no big deal, so was Albert Einstein)- but is also known for being very outspoken against pacifists. While he supposedly had personal friends who were pacifists, he publicly regarded pacirism as a completely immoral and even fundamentally evil perspective. I've not read his full view on the topic, though...
PS- I'm not at all a fan of movies, generally speaking. But I will absolutely positively be there to see it opening weekend, with my 17 and 20 year old kids with me (they made me proud by planning to go on their own then inviting me along!). Moore is under no obligation to tell the whole truth. No one who produces a documentary can even possibly present the WHOLE truth. I'm reasonably sure that Moore's "truth" will be absolutely precise, if incomplete. So far it seems that no one can challenge any of the facts presented. The bottom line is that we're still buying Saudi oil, and that fact alone totally and completely destroys any argument that the USA is doing ANYTHING AT ALL to stop terrorism. At Bush's direction, we're literally feeding the dog that bites us. And he won't stop kicking that dog and its puppies!
I think Michael Moore is an idiot and so do many of his fellow actors. It was nice seeing him get booed off the stage after accepting his Oscar. I am interested in seeing his new movie to see what kind of ass he makes of himself again. I hate to give him any of my money though, so I'll have to pay for a different movie and sneak into his.
I am not a huge fan of Michael Moore, that is to say that I think his books and movies are more infotainment. But it also raises the question, if Moore's books were all facts and no jokes at his right-wing opponents' expense, would he be so much of a sucess as far as the sales of his books? His humor is really what allows him to reach such a wide audience as he does. I will be seeing his new movie on Friday, but mostly because I can appreciate the good 'How many pro-lifers does it take to screw in a lightbulb' joke.
Bowling for Columbine was a great documentary Michael Moore is a great film maker...no matter how u view his views
