Pentecost is the festival that commemorates the descent of the Holy Spirit upon the Apostles and one hundred and twenty followers (including Mary), fifty days after the Ressurection of Jesus at and ten days after the Acension. The name "Pentecost" comes from the Greek word Pentékosté, meaning "fiftieth", and originally referred to Shavout, celebrated after seven full weeks on the fiftieth day after Passover. Pentecostal churches as named so because they emphasize the Holy Spirit dwelling inside the individual. Pentecost is celebrated as the original baptism of the Holy Spirit (and God's new covenant with man that meant each individual alone could have personal communication with him, through His Spirit living inside of them, as opposed to the old covenant where only the Holiest of men could commune with the Lord). It is the birth of the New Testament church.
Haha, I was gonna ask what pentecost was. I have a pentagram tattooed on my right leg... and an upside down cross on my left arm. Slonshea!
The holy spirit dwells in my ass, and now and then(especially when I eat beans) it comes out to say hi. Doesn't make me popular at uni, when people have to move seat
well, most western churches celebrated pentecost may 15 (in 2005 Anno Domini)... (we (lutherans) call it the birthday of the church, heh...)
hate to burst your bubble...but you dont choose that for Him Epiphany...my calander listes the day of the Pentacost a while ago, is that from the Roman calander where they moved Passover [and with it Easter] to an earlier date?
I'm happy to hear it Epiphany. All I meant was that everyday we should try to open our hearts anew to the Spirit - I'm sure Christians of many churches try to do just that. *peace*
...he says that the spirit lives in his ass and its shit... I DONT Think this dudehas the Holy Spirit!
but you still connot say 100% that he does not...it is not your place or any person's place to make that decision
According to the Roman calendar, all holidays fall on Pagan celebrations. Pentecost occurs exactly fifty days after Ressurection Day (which the Catholic's named Easter after the Pagan goddess). According to the Jewish calendar, Christ died and was ressurected in April. That would make the month of june the correct date of Pentecost. I do have to agree with Amber on the last comment. Those who possess the Holy Spirit, are aware if another does also. As stated in Acts, "They were all of one accord."
Yes Epiphany thank you for agreeing w/me!! I like that whole "my spirit will bear witness to your spirit" stuff!! its neat.
It is quite neat, if I do say so myself. If the idea of someone claiming that their neighbor does not possess the Spirit of Jesus Christ seems judgmental, then you mine as while just disregard the entire New Testament as being such. The Bible makes reference to the fact that if the Spirit is dwelling inside of you, then you will see it inside of others. As I have stated before, many speak of the Spirit, yet few are in possession of it.
ummm, i dunno 'bout you all, but in 2005 most christians of the world (excepting orthodox christians ) celebrated easter march 27... (the fist sunday after the first full moon following the vernal equinox, mmmkay?)
ok ok...but still, i bet the internet is hardly the best means to see if one does posses the spirit... i will never claim to have it, unless i truly feel it, neither will i never refute anyone's claim sorry, i was kinda having a bad day, sorry for that
burbot, you shouldn't need to apologise. Remain true to yourself, don't change your mind based on what a few others say. Decide for yourself, and never apologise for having an opinion. ryupower goddamnit, I do have the holy spirit! I can speak with my tongue hanging out of my mouth and loudly! And guess, what! You can't prove I don't have it the same way you can't prove you DO have it! Hell for you baby!
