street children shot and killed by police

i was reading some entries on my amnesty group's live journal, and one caught my eye and gave my a gut renching feeling.

She said that in certain south american countries street children are shot and killed by police officers becuase they are a distraction to tourists.

this is an old link, from 2004. i don't know if there is any action being taken right now, but i felt that it was a good idea to let people know about what was going on, hopefully most people were already aware of this.

 

"Sara Sauceda Flores, mother of 16-year-old Darwin Roberto Flores who was killed in February 2002, has been intimidated and threatened after she filed complaints against two police officers she believes murdered her son. In April 2004 she received an anonymous letter saying, "your days are coming to an end, you will end up worse than your son". The previous month, the taxi in which she was travelling was hit by a car carrying two people, one of whom had harassed her earlier from another vehicle. In January she found three bullet casings in her locker at work."

What the hell is wrong with people?

 

Some people are just sick and twisted. There's really no explaining it. Something wrong their minds or some shit like that. I just don't know how someone could have fun knowing how terrified that person would be. I mean, how could you do that to someone? The person doing it sure wouldn't want that shit to happen to them now would they? So why fucking do it?

 

Yeah, they also sometimes execute, on the spot, kids found with marijuana or other drugs.
