I wasn't sure where this post belonged... but I figured I'd get the most beneficial responses in here so.... I wore these cute red shoes one day... BIG MISTAKE. I did a lot of walking that day and they didn't fit right so they rubbed sores on my feet. The left one wasn't as bad, and it healed pretty good. But now my right foot has a big ugly scar. How can I get rid of it?
I've heard that rubbing vitamin E onto scars can help fade them away. I've heard the same thing about Cocoa Butter lotion. I've also seen some new products out,but I'm not sure of the names. I think alot depends on how old the scars are, too.
yep, vitamin E is great for the skin and helping to heal cars. You could also try using Arnica, which is a natural way to relieve bruising, swelling and possibly scaring, but I'm not sure on that one.
neosporin does work very well like lace mentioned.....mostly it helps with preventing a scar if you've got a scab (but also does some good on fresh scars as well i think). I got quite a bit of mosquito bites on my legs last year and because I scratched at them the scabs healed but left some red marks behind. Those red marks will in time fade for the most part to where they are hardley noticable, but I actually posted a question here in the forums a while ago about what to do about the red marks left on my legs and someone mentioned a bleaching cream. I haven't looked into it, but it might help speed the fading process along. Also there is something called Merderma for scars which I've seen in stores and in commercials...I've never tried it but maybe that will work for you? I've also read many conflicting reports about the vitamin E thing. Some say it works wonders and others say it will actually make scars worse. I personally have no idea but I guess it's probably better to rely on testimonials. I was actually wondering if vit E works myself.
I wouldn't rely on testimonials. . . I would rely on clinical data. Vitamin E is possibly effective. Cocoa butter is not effective. The best product is a silicone sheet. Plastic surgeons and dematologists have used them successfully for quite some time. There are several on the market, the most popular and usually the most economical is Neosporin Scar Solutions. It should run about $35-$40 per box. Mederma also has been used successfully, although to a lesser extent. If you try Mederma, I would not reccomend using a generic or store brand. This is one of the VERY FEW times you will ever hear me say that. If the scar is less than 3 square inches, the small tube of Mederma should be enough, otherwise get the large tube. It is significantly cheaper than the silicone sheets. Either one of these products should be available on the first aid aisle of your community pharmacy.
