I'll give you some info here on Youth Hostel Amsterdam..
adress=Zandpad 5..ask for Leidseplein..then for Vondelpark..
i stayed a few times there...nice location..
check website www.njhc.org/vondelpark
click stayokhostels..then English..
then click on the green map for Amsterdam..
2 Youth hostels..click Vondelpark..
Price is about 21 euro/person+breakfast included..
4 to 8 beds in a dormitory..shower+toilet..
lockers present..take a padlock along..
in Amsterdam beware of pickpockets in certain areas..
no night lock out..you can come in with magnetic code card..
eating evening food at 18.00h in Backpackers Brasserie..
reception open between 07.00h till midnight
online booking possible..for august..be quick..
450 beds available..
sightseeing=classical tour of the canals..
boats are situated between railway Station-Damrak..
shopping street=ask for Kalverstraat..
red light district is a tourist attraction...
but beware in certain areas...
most pleasant in Amsterdam is just a walking tour..
