What I don't understand is why I don't see everyone out there my age protesting. I protested at the Republican National Convention and when George Bush came to my town 2 weeks earlier. I would like to hear if there is anyone else protesting out there.
there's nothing here to protest... well, there's lots of things, but if i were to speak out against anything, the local church would try to kill me.
i protested in nyc in march. it was great. the march started off at Marcus Garvey Park then we marched through Harlem, then through the streets to Central Park, it ended at the mayor's house. it was one of the best experiences of my life. thousands of people protesting, powerful speakers, people for a worthy cause, it was just awesome. i met some great people and a few forumers were there
on a much smaller scale i also participated in a local protest against amry recruiters in schools. after that and a lot of meetings with school advisors we finally got close to what we wanted. army recruiters still come but now they have to be in the guidance office instead of trying to give us army water bottles and post-it pads during lunch
I remember when the army recuiters came to my school. If you did 20 pull ups, they gave you a t-shirt. We got lots of pencils and things on them that said "Become an army of one" on them. Crispy creame was there also. I really hope my future isin't as limited as the school career day makes it seem.
I've been to a few protests... the Inauguration, Ashcroft's lawn, protests on March 20th... I plan to attend a fast and vigil to abolish the death penalty on the 29th... yeah, I've been a busy Red these past few years.
I've been to a few norml events and local democrat/green/reform meetings (basically just all liberal parties combined into one). My neighbor is the head of that organization. I went to local festivals around here and voluteered to work with my neighbor and his group at a stand... that's about it. There's so much around here to protest.. mostly corruption in the local gov't. I just don't like most of the people in this town. They give me chills.
Most people in this town drive 10-20 over the speed limit. I forgot I was also in this future planning group thing.. future problems solvers of america. I remember we were working developing plans for peak oil and what to expect and how to keep the earth environmentally safe if a new type of fuel was discovered and what not. We were also working on what to expect at the peak of when all the baby boomers start to retire... and also a project about water conservation. I made it to the nationals. Not exactly protesting, but doing for a good cause, activism, etc. It's all for making the world a better place except one is dealing with offense and the other with defense.
So what... Yeah it hurts a little and the tear gas is a pain in the ass but other that, beeing beat up attracts media and then other potential protesters see it... it also shows that they notice you...
I like pepper spray, great for dramatic affect...... haven't been tear gassed yet......... and suffering is but something that the body holds within itself for a brief moment
